Kate Middleton has been taking time away from the public eye as she recovers from her recent abdominal surgery and subsequent cancer diagnosis, which she has been receiving preventative chemotherapy for.

And now, a royal aide has shared that she won't be returning to work until she has had the 'green light' from her medical team, something which the palace has echoed.

"We have been really clear that she needs the space and the privacy to recover right now. She will return to work when she has had the green light from doctors," the aide told MailOnline.

The news comes as the Princess was described as the 'driving force' behind a new report urging businesses to introduce more family-friendly working practices, something which she is set to focus on upon returning.

Her Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood unveiled a major new report which argues that investing in early childhood could generate more than £45.5 billion for the national economy each year.

The aide continued: "The Princess of Wales was the driving force behind the business task force. She has been kept up to date since the inception of the task force and she has read the report and been briefed on it. This is a clear commitment she has made throughout her life of public service that this will be focus. That will continue when she returns to work. "

Echoing these thoughts, a Kensington Palace spokesman said: "The princess is not expected to return to work until it's cleared by her medical team." He added: "Early childhood will continue to be central to her public work."

This update comes after Kate left many royal fans wondering if she was beginning a return to work last week as she shared a trailer for a new project to Instagram in collaboration with Mental Health Week.

The Prince and Princess of Wales' official Instagram account released a short film about the mental health challenges which the UK's farmers face, which starred Love Island's Will Young and saw the royals pledge to offer mental support to farmers in rural communities.

Meanwhile, Prince William also shared last week that his wife was 'doing well' as he provided an update on her during a visit to a hospital on the Isles of Scilly.

During his visit to St Mary's Community Hospital, William was told about a new facility for health and social care that was being built near the hospital. He was also given a letter by matron Lynda McHale which had been sweetly written by her granddaughter, wishing Kate and King Charles the best in her cancer recovery
