Although it was likely a poignant moment for Kate Middleton who reunited with Royal Family for first time since Christmas, it was clear to see the 42 year old's main focus was her children.

The Princess of Wales - who is mum to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - made an emotional appearance at today's (June 15) Trooping the Colour celebrations and looked sensational as she stepped out on the royal balcony.

But given the rather wet and windy weather, it could have been a cold event for the royals as they waved to onlookers. In fact, Princess Charlotte even appeared to rub her arm in a bid to stay warm.

Now, Adrianne Carter, body language expert at The Face Whisperer, has exclusively told OK! that Kate could be 'worried' about her daughter Charlotte, but felt more at ease once William stood next to them.

Referring to Kate gently touching Charlotte's arm, Adrienne said: "It was a warm parental gesture that showed maybe Kate is worried that Charlotte is a bit cold.

"I think once William was with them, it was clear he was in charge of the boys. He seemed to interact with them more."

Kate, who has been undergoing cancer treatment, undoubtedly has a close relationship with her daughter, and small gestures such as this one on the balcony, shows exactly that, according to the expert.

Adrienne continued: "Kate shows us her close and hands-on bond with Charlotte. The little touches that Kate bestows on Charlotte on the balcony show us the close mother-daughter bond they have."

Trooping the Colour is a tradition that has been carried out annually for over 260 years to celebrate the British monarch's birthday, but Kate's appearance this year came as a surprise to many.

The mum of three confirmed her attendance at the royal event on Friday evening. Kate released a personal message, in which she revealed she would be attending the parade, and said she is making “good progress” in her cancer treatment.

Alongside a candid update on her cancer journey, she could be seen in a beautiful new image. The royal mum-of-three is seen standing under a weeping willow tree as she gazes up at the sky, dressed in a blazer over a white T-shirt, teamed with jeans and trainers. The tranquil picture was taken by Matt Porteous earlier this week in the grounds of the Windsor Castle estate.

Kate issued a lengthy and personal statement, in which she gave an update on her chemotherapy treatment and revealed she has "good days and bad days". The princess has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer since late February.

She said she has begun to work from home, undertaking meetings with her foundation and Kensington Palace team, and hopes “to join a few public engagements over the summer” but stressed “I am not out of the woods yet”.

Kate's return to the public spotlight for Trooping the Colour has been welcomed by her father-in-law, King Charles. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “His Majesty is delighted that the princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events, and is much looking forward to all elements of the day”.
