The younger brother of Kate Middleton has been forced to postpone his wedding due to coronavirus.

James, 32, had been due to marry French girlfriend Alizee Thevenet, 29, this spring - but they have decided to instead hold it at a later date.

According to the Daily Mail, the couple are “sad” about the turn of events, but feel that it isn’t “practical” to continue to hold their nuptials in the coming months.

“It's very sad, but it's just not practical to hold it in this crisis,” a friend of the pair told the paper.

“Holding an Anglo-French wedding is impossible in the coming months and is still likely to be difficult in the summer.

'They would prefer to wait until all their guests are able — and happy — to attend.”

Their decision is in contrast to Princess Beatrice and Italian boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi who are considering still holding a ceremony for a "small group of family and friends", despite being forced to cancel their reception at Buckingham Palace.

It comes after it was revealed in October that the Duchess of Cambridge’s sibling had proposed to the City worker after the couple met at the South Kensington Club in 2018.

James and Alizee confirmed they had got engaged with an Instagram post showing off her sapphire ring.

Captioning the smiling snap with his girlfriend, the entrepreneur wrote: “She said OUI.

“Our secret is out but we couldn’t be happier to share the news.”

Last autumn, he opened up about his battle with depression, which included experiencing suicidal thoughts.

James revealed in an interview how Kate attended family therapy sessions with him during his recovery.

Speaking about his mental health to the Daily Telegraph, the entrepreneur said the mum-of-three played a key role, along with dad Michael, mum Carole and other sister Pippa, in helping him tackle his mental health.

“All of them. Not necessarily at the same time, but either individually and [sometimes] together,” he said of which family members accompanied him to treatment, which involved just under a year of cognitive behavioural therapy.

James - who was 13 years old when his sister began dating Prince William - also spoke about the major depressive episode that culminated in him seeking help.

He recalled: “I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t read a book, I couldn’t watch a film, I couldn’t eat. If I ate something it just sat there.

"I was just like, 'What am I meant to do?' I was better off in my own company, so I didn’t have the additional worry of someone thinking, 'What’s wrong with him?' I removed myself from everything."
