Kate makes pancakes with residents of nursing home to celebrate Shrove Tuesday

Kate — the Princess of Wales — has visited Oxford House Nursing Home in Slough, where she celebrated Pancake Day with some of the residents.

Whilst trying her hand at flipping her pancake with the nursing home's chef, it unfortunately fell apart in the pan, and she joked this was "how not to make pancakes".

Despite her laughter, she eventually managed to successfully flip her pancake, which caused those in attendance to give her a quick cheer and round of applause.

"All the ones that were made earlier are much nicer than this one. I'm sorry," Kate said to the chef, "I haven't done you justice."

Oxford House is a relatively small nursing home, only caring for up to 34 residents at a time, which is because the family-run facility focuses on patient centred-care. They also run a community care operation which helps service-users maintain independence by remaining in their own homes.

Whilst she was there, Kate met Nora, a resident who's an impressive 109 years old. Kate looked at a birthday card which featured a picture of the King and Queen Consort that Nora had recently received and when Kate realised that their birthdays are only two days apart, she said with excitement: "a fellow Capricorn!"

Kate then discussed with Nora and her grandchildren Lily and John what Nora's favourite foods are: Brussel Sprouts and Kidneys were the verdict, to which Kate responded: "I love kidneys too."

The Princess of Wales also tried her hand at a game of interactive football with another resident Jean. The nursing home introduced the sensory table during the pandemic as a response to the restrictions which meant residents couldn't have visitors.

This isn't the only cutting edge technology Oxford House is using to support their residents — they recently added an interactive wall, aimed to help those suffering from dementia.

Kate also took time to speak with members of staff while she was there and visited Oxford House's award-winning garden.

She donned a camel-coloured, mid-length Max&co coat for the occasion — which was a re-wear — and underneath wore an ensemble of chic navy pieces: a turtle-necked top and a pair of smart, wide-legged trousers, along with a pair of suede chunky-heeled shoes.
