Kate Beckinsale avoids caffeine and alcohol, says chocolate is 'like cocaine' for her
Kate Beckinsale has spoken about avoiding all “stimulants” including caffeine and alcohol, and eats a limited amount of dark chocolate.
The 46-year-old is the cover star for the January/February issue of Women’s Health US. Earlier today, she shared pictures and videos from the shoot on her Instagram account, to her 3.7 million followers. The shoot took place in the hills of Los Angeles, and Beckinsale poses in a series of athletic wear outfits, while she wears a Breton style top and bikini bottoms for the cover itself.
In the cover interview, the British actor opens up about her eating patterns. Beckinsale is celebrated for her age-defying looks and physique – but it would seem she imposes some serious dietary restrictions to help her feel her best.

She “consumes virtually no stimulants—definitely no caffeine—and no alcohol,” according to the interview, and attributes this to having a “sensitive” constitution.
“I think some people’s systems are just a bit sensitive to things. If you told me you had nausea yesterday, I might start throwing up myself,” she explains of her food intolerances. “If I ate too much dark chocolate, it would be like someone else taking cocaine.”
While Beckinsale doesn’t go into further detail about why she personally avoids these foods, there are a number of reasons why someone might decide to avoid alcohol, caffeine and chocolate.
Sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome are advised to avoid these foods, while others might choose to avoid stimulants in order to keep their energy levels consistent.
As for what she does eat, it’s a fairly wholesome line-up: chicken or eggs with grass-fed butter before a workout, and salads with radishes, Brussels sprouts, and safflower oil or salmon for the rest of the day – with occasional handfuls of crisps.

It seems she’s also sensitive to citrus, as the interviewer chronicles how she removes a piece of lime from her fizzy water during the interview – due to a “histamine intolerance”.
Those sensitive to histamine, a chemical present in certain foods, should avoid citrus fruits, according to the Healthline website.
Beckinsale’s not the only celebrity to speak about a restrictive diet. Earlier this year, Naomi Campbell revealed she can go more than a day without eating – a routine also known as “intermittent fasting”.
