Jodie Whittaker reveals baby news on the Brits red carpet

Jodie Whittaker chose the Brit Awards 2022 red carpet to reveal she is pregnant with her second child.

The Doctor Who actor attended the star-studded awards ceremony at London's O2 Arena on Tuesday night in a custom dress by British designer Cimone and seemingly confirmed her happy news by cradling her bump.

The puff-ball style mini-dress with balloon sleeves fell loosely over her stomach to flatter her pregnancy silhouette.

While the body of the dress was cream, the high-neck gown featured a pop of orange across the chest with embellished orange and white beading cascading down the body of the dress and sleeves.

Whittaker teamed the oversized gown with chunky black heels and a quirky dice bag.

While the 39-year-old actor didn’t address her pregnancy directly, the designer of the dress confirmed the news in an Instagram post, explaining that it was created especially with Whittaker's pregnancy in mind.

Sharing an image backstage of the star before the awards, the brand wrote: "The beautiful #jodiewhittaker in our custom made beanbag ball dress for #thebritawards2022 @britawardsinc – the dress is all made from end of life materials and was created specifically to incorporate her pregnancy, while allowing Jodie to retain her sense of self.

"We’ve worked with Jodie before and love the energy she brings to our pieces… for this occasion, we wanted to make something both structured and yet playful – and this is the result! To create the statement dress, Whittaker's stylist Helen Sykes worked alongside Cimone's creative director Carli Pearson, who explained: “We chose orange because it is a powerful and divisive colour, you either love it or hate it – it’s flamboyant, determined, and designed to make a splash – it’s not a colour for a wallflower.

"This polarising quality is analogous with the theory behind our dynamic ever-changing ‘embroidery’.”

Sykes also added, “It was important for Jodie to work with a female-led British brand for this event. We have worked with Carli before and love both the aesthetic and sculptural nature of her collections. I think there is a clear correlation between Jodie’s assertiveness and the inherent strength of Carli’s designs.”

Whittaker is already a mother of a seven-year-old daughter with husband Christian Contreras.

The TV star will have a bit more time on her hands to enjoy life with her new arrival as she’s set to bow out of Doctor Who later this year.

Whittaker confirmed she would be leaving the long-running BBC series last year after joining the show in 2017.

Whittaker met her husband, US actor Contreras, at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They married in 2008 and had their first child in 2015.

While she opts to keep her relationship out of the spotlight, the actor has briefly mentioned her marriage.

"He’s from Tucson and I’m from Huddersfield," she told The Mirror.

"But I don’t divulge stuff about him, because I don’t think he’d appreciate it when he’s not here to speak for himself. We do get comments like, 'Where the hell did you two meet?' We’re like an international couple."
