Japanese Trend Has Parents Squishing Their Babies’ Faces To Look Like Rice Balls
Don’t worry, it’s a completely harmless trend. And completely bonkers. [Photo: Twitter]
There’s nothing cuter than squishing a baby’s face, but people in Japan are taking the doting gesture even further than a gentle pinching of the cheeks.
Parents are squishing their babies’ faces to look like rice balls – and the Internet can’t get enough of it. Accompanied with possibly the weirdest hashtag of 2015, the #RiceBallBabies meme is inspiring people to squish teeny tots’ faces into a shape that resembles a rice ball. Bizarre, but adorable.

It all started when Japanese comedian Masahiro Ehara squished his kids’ faces into triangular rice ball shapes in June.
Since then, his delighted Twitter followers have been turning their children into #RiceBallBabies, spreading the off-the-wall parenting trend globally.

And if you don’t have a baby? No problem. You can tweak the trend to #RiceBallPets or #RiceBallFriends.
The latter, unsurprisingly, is nowhere near as cute.
