Jamie Oliver announces exciting new venture
Jamie Oliver is venturing into the world of children's books with an adventure story that went on sale today.
Jamie's children's fiction debut, named Billy and the Giant Adventure, promises "one pinch of adventure, a dash of friendship, a sprinkle of mystery and a HUGE spoonful of magic", as Billy and his friends discover a secret way into the out-of-bounds Waterfall Woods.
Jamie's children's book, aimed at kids aged 7-11 years, has been released in hardback, as an ebook and also as audio book.
Taking to Instagram today (13 April), Jamie shared a reel showing the colourful illustrations in the book.
"I'm beyond excited as #BillyAndTheGiantAdventure is officially out TODAY!!," wrote Jamie. "My first ever kids book...I've aimed it at kids aged 7-11 but you adults will also enjoy reading this as I've dropped in some fun 1980s references in there too."
He also discussed how the font has been chosen with consideration for those with dyslexia.
"Being dyslexic myself I know how difficult it can be to read books, so alongside my publisher, we've carefully chosen the font to make sure the text is as clear as possible, and that the illustrations are beautiful and eye-catching to keep your kids attention," he explained.
Previously, the celebrity chef revealed some famous names will be appearing on the audiobook, sharing a behind-the-scenes video of the recording with his 9 million Instagram followers.
"I'm so excited to let you in on a project I've been working on that's been so much fun," Jamie announced on Instagram (21 January). "I've recorded an audiobook to accompany my children's book, Billy & The Giant Adventure! It's going to sound epic!"
As well as being voiced by Jamie, the audiobook will also feature Jason Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher, Kadeem Ramsay, Benny Mails and Tamzene Allison-Power, as well as Jamie's wife Jools Oliver.
The video Jamie shared to Instagram shows behind-the-scenes of the audiobook being recorded, giving us a little insight into the children's story.
"And the cherry on the cake is a song I've written for one of the characters," wrote Jamie. "But who? You'll have to listen to find out! I've loved making it and I hope you love it too."

As a dad of five, we're sure Jamie knows the ingredients for what makes a great children's book. For families with the chef's cookbooks on their book shelves, this will make a great addition to the collection.
Billy and the Giant Adventure will be released by Puffin on 13 April 2023 in hardback, ebook and audiobook.
