James Corden reveals Gavin and Stacey extras interrupted wedding scene in shock moment on set
Gavin and Stacey made a triumphant return on Christmas Day, with the BBC stars reprising their roles for one last special. Fans now know that Smithy (James Corden) was set to marry his difficult fiancé Sonia (Laura Aikman) after becoming engaged shortly after the last Christmas episode, however the wedding was halted by Gavin, Stacey and Smithy's other friends and family at the altar.
While the likes of Mick, Pam, Pete, Dawn and other key characters objected to the marriage, two unknown wedding guests also stood up to oppose the match - a moment James Corden has revealed was a complete surprise to him.
Speaking about the Gavin and Stacey finale, creator and star James said: "The two ladies - I don't know if you remember seeing them - essentially, we didn't really tell anybody what to do, other than our cast who would stand up at their various points.

"When Anna Maxwell Martin, who brilliantly came to give us two days of her time to to play the part of the celebrant, says, 'if anybody here knows of any reasons please stand,' there's two ladies at the back on Sonia's side who stood up. We didn't tell them to do that."
James added that the two extras later admitted they got carried away in the scene. "One was from Australia and they were just real fans and they were so in it," he said. "They just stood up and then they got really embarrassed and were like, 'We didn't know. I just thought he shouldn't be marrying him!' It was an amazing moment."
The special, which saw the stars of Gavin and Stacey return after five years, was a festive hit on Christmas Day, with 12.3 million viewers tuning in to find out whether Smithy and Nessa (Ruth Jones) would end up together. The likes of Sheridan Smith, Pam Ferris, Russell Tovey and Steffan Rhodri reprised their much-loved roles, however fans noticed that one particular star was missing from the episode.
Smithy's close friend Deano, played by Ghosts' Mathew Baynton, was nowhere to be seen, with viewers taking to social media to ask why the guest star didn't return. "WHERE is DEANO! #GavinAndStacey," one fan wrote, while another tweeted: "No Deano at Smithy's stag doesn't feel right."
Ahead of the special, Larry Lamb - who plays Gavin's dad Mick - opened up about suffering with a terrifying illness that he contracted after a trip of Senegal, leaving him with permanent hearing loss. "It's been catastrophic. I'm famous for never being ill. But I went into complete physical meltdown," he said.
"At one point I felt like I was dying. But the real shock was when I realised I couldn't hear properly."
