Jacqueline Jossa 'sobs' as she says goodbye - 'I'm a broken woman'

Jacqueline Jossa was overcome with emotion as she said goodbye to co-star Shona McGogarty, who plays Whitney Dean.

In the latest episode, Whitney Dean, played by Shona, made her exit from the BBC One soap after 16 years. It was announced last year that Shona had decided to leave the popular show.

Whitney, who first appeared on our screens back in 2008, has been involved in numerous dramatic storylines over the past 16 years. Most recently, she was devastated to find out that her partner and father of her new born baby Dolly, Zack Hudson, had cheated on her with her friend Lauren Branning.

Following this heartbreak, Whitney chose to leave Walford for good on Thursday, taking newborn Dolly and foster daughter Britney Wainwright with her. She revealed that she was moving to Wakefield to be closer to her brother Ryan Malloy.

In emotional scenes at the end of the episode, Whitney, Dolly and Britney all left Walford for good as Julia's Theme played in the background. After the emotional episode, EastEnders' official Instagram account shared a photo of Shona surrounded by her co-stars, all smiling at the camera. The caption read: "We're just gonna leave this one right here... #EastEnders" accompanied by crying emojis.

Jacqueline, who plays Lauren Branning, commented: "Sobbed", followed by "I am a broken woman!" and "loveeeeee you @shonabmx". Dean Gaffney, who portrayed Robbie Jackson from 1993 until 2019, responded with a heart emoji.

EastEnders then shared an insightful behind-the-scenes glimpse at Shona's final moments as Whitney on their Instagram page. The caption read: "Watch as we followed Shona McGarty around for her final weeks of filming as Whitney Dean. Emotions were high as cast and crew prepared to say goodbye to a much-loved Walford icon... #EastEnders."

Patsy Palmer, who is best known for her portrayal of Bianca Jackson, heart-warmingly responded: "Love you @shonabmx "What if I fall ? But what if you fly my girl! What if you fly” Beyond proud of you Thankyou for recieving my love" accompanied with heart emojis.

Soap followers were quick off the mark to share their observations on Twitter about Whitney's exit scenes. The eagle-eyed fans pointed out a delightful hidden detail - Britney was seen donning the same hat that Whitney wore in her debut back in 2008.

One tweeter observed: "Class nod to Whitney that ending it on a bus with Britney wearing the hat from her first episode! Mad #Eastenders", while another user commented: "It's the way the episode ended. The little Easter eggs, Britney wearing Whitney's cap. Whitney quoting Bianca from when they first came on the square. What an ending #Eastenders."
