ITV Emmerdale sees horror accident, devastating illness and wedding bells in show teasers

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw has teased dramatic spring storylines that will change the lives of lots of characters in the show – and there’s a new face in the village too.

Laura teased that newcomer, Rose, will arrive very soon. While Rose is a stranger to most people in the village she is someone from Will Taylor’s (Dean Andrews) past.

Rose is someone who Laura says is "serious, boisterous, bolshy, a bit of a free-spirit, loves to party”. As she’s someone who knows Will, Rose will be ruffling Kim Tate’s (Claire King) feathers and “causing a real storm at Home Farm”.

Rose will be played by Christine Tremarco who fans will recognise from Waterloo Road where she played Davina Shackleton, as well as Springhill and Casualty.

Wedding bells

In scenes set to air very soon, Matty Barton and Amy Wyatt, played by Ash Palmisciano and Natalie Ann Jamieson, prepare to tie the knot.

However, there is a spanner in the works when Amy’s mum, Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton), confesses she can no longer afford to pair it.

Producer Laura said: “It's full of humour and wit, drama and tears, but I think more importantly, it's just full of heart and warmth as well.

“From our point of view, we wanted to show anybody out there who's watching who might be going through a journey like Matty's, that as a young trans person in the world today, you can find love and acceptance and you can live happily ever after.”

White wedding

Matty and Amy aren’t the only pair hoping to tie the knot, as behind-the-scenes the team at Emmerdale are also planning a big Dingle wedding for Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley).

The pair very recently got engaged on-screen so the team are still in the planning stages of their wedding.

However, Laura did say that “with Mandy and Paddy involved, it’s going to be a lot of fun”.

Family horror for Dawn and Billy

They might have just tied the knot and had a baby, but there’s trouble brewing for Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley) and Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle).

Laura teases their world will be “rocked” when baby Evan is diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

Fans will see the family go through challenges as Billy and Dawn attempt to support each other, as well as their two children Clemmie and Lucas. Evan’s diagnosis will also have an effect on grandparents Kim and Will.

Terror continues for Belle

Poor Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) wedding night ended in tears as Tom King (James Chase) continued to coercively control her - and Laura reveals matters will only get worse.

She said: “This long running storyline. It's been really careful of research and it’s going to continue over the next few months.

“And what we've really learned from research and the time spent with charities, is just how quickly these coercive control relationships can turn physical.”

Laura also spoke about a special episode which is a “dinner party” and will focus on Belle, Tom, Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) where viewers will see that what people show in public is not necessarily what you see behind closed doors.

Life-changing events

Also in the village, there’s a terrible accident for a few residents which will also affect their families.

Laura hinted that one character might not make it and said: “whether they live or die, we will have to see.”

“What I can tell you is that the ripples and repercussions from that accident will be very long-lasting and life changing for a number of our villagers.”
