ITV confirms release date details for final Vera episodes along with farewell special
ITV has confirmed the release date for the 14th and final season of Vera, with the show also set to get a farewell special.
It was announced earlier this year that the crime drama, which follows Brenda Blethyn's titular chief inspector, would conclude with its next batch of episodes, bringing an end to a near-15-year run.
With fans eager to view the concluding chapter, ITV has now announced that the two-episode finale will air on Wednesday, 1st January and Thursday, 2nd January on ITV1, with each instalment beginning at 8pm.
Additionally, a documentary – titled Vera: Farewell Pet – will air the following night (3rd January) at 9pm on the same channel, with the special set to explore the "enduring appeal" of the show and its "profound impact" on fans and cast members (via TV Zone UK).
As per the logline, the special "will capture the extraordinary journey of Vera and its lasting influence on British crime drama – set against the stunning backdrop of Northumberland, where the landscape became a character in its own right, this celebration honours the show's remarkable legacy".
Blethyn, who announced her departure from the show in a statement, recently teased elements of the final two episodes, confirming that trouble lay ahead for various characters as the story nears its conclusion.
"I will tell you there's trouble with Detective Inspector Joe Ashworth (David Leon)," she said. "Joe has something going on that he doesn't want to talk about and Vera is anxious to get to the bottom of that.
"We know he came back to the area because his father was ill. He passed away [which] we've already seen.
"Joe doesn't seem to have come out of that dungeon and Vera's concerned about that," she continued, before adding that her own character would have a "big" decision to make.
Vera will return at 8pm on Wednesday, 1st January, 2025 on ITV1 and ITVX.
