Inside Gogglebox couple's 'rows' as they split after 9 years of marriage
Lucy Beaumont spilled the beans on her 'henpecking' spats with Jon Richardson before their shock marriage breakdown.
The comedy world was left stunned as the Celebrity Gogglebox stars announced they're calling time on their nine-year marriage.
The couple, who are parents to their seven year old daughter Elsie, took to Instagram with a heartfelt joint statement on Friday, 12 April, saying: "After 9 years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated. We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways. As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being. We will be making no further comment."
Before becoming a power couple, comedians Lucy and 8 Out Of 10 Cats star Jon were already established in the comedy scene but were set up by GameFace and After Life actress Roisin Conaty in 2013.
They exchanged vows in April 2015 and embraced parenthood with the arrival of Elsie the following year.
Fans have loved watching them portray heightened versions of themselves in the mockumentary Meet The Richardsons since 2020, and they've also been a hit on Celebrity Gogglebox, charming viewers with their banter.
While Lucy isn't always the nicest to Jon, 41, on their hit show Meet The Richardsons, available on Dave, the 40 year old has admitted that's not her true nature.
She explained everything to The Sunday Post a few months ago, saying: "It's been great, but I see comments on social media and people don't seem to realise it's not real.", reports the Mirror.
"I don't henpeck we wouldn't have lasted this long if I was as mean to him in real life. You don't want to see a smug couple in love, in a nice house, with a stable career and a lovely little child. Who wants to see that? I wasn't doing it if we were going to be like that."
She continued: "We'll show the other side where we're just at each other constantly. It's a more truthful portrayal. The world we've got around us is slightly bizarre, but I think people still feel like they recognise themselves in it, which is good."
During an appearance on Channel 4's Eight Out Of Ten Cats Does Countdown in 2022, Lucy threw a cheeky jab at her husband, hinting at trouble in paradise.
The studio audience erupted into laughter when Lucy and host Jimmy Carr took playful jabs at her marriage to Jon.
As Lucy was introduced as a contestant, Jimmy asked: "Lucy and Jon are married. So I know Lucy, everyone watching at home is dying to know... What made you decide to settle? " To which Lucy responded with a tongue-in-cheek comment: "I don't see this for life."
Lucy continued, saying: "Isn't it a song - just passing through? Is it? ... You meet in your life old souls, new souls... A***holes."
She then added that she and Jon "had a lovely life together" but hinted at an uncertain future with: "Who knows what will happen in the future."
