I'm A Celeb flight chaos as 'stars unable to land in Australia due to extreme weather'
I'm A Celebrity's rumoured first contestant Danny Jones and spin-off show hosts Joel Dommet, Sam Thompson and Kemi Rodgers were all spotted at London Heathrow on Saturday morning as they headed Down Under ahead of the ITV show launch next week. And while the celebrities should have landed in Brisbane by now, they are reportedly being held up due to extreme weather.
Severe storms have led to delays at Brisbane airport, with the airport closing their tarmac while the rain, thunder and lightening hammers down. And this has led to the stars being held up, with The Sun reporting that their Singapore Airlines flight was due to land at 8.56pm local time but has not yet disembarked.
A tannoy announcement at the airport allegedly said “tarmac is closed which means bags can’t be unloaded”. They said it will continue to operate properly once the storm has passed.
Sam Thompson did share a clip to Instagram from the flight on Saturday evening, when he managed to get WIFI to send a sweet message to his best pal Pete Wicks - who was performing on Strictly at the same time. However, he has not shared an update since.
Already in the Gold Coast is Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, who were snapped enjoying breakfast together on Sunday morning as they geared up to host the iconic show next weekend.
Sam, Joel and Kemi are set to host this year's spin-off show, I'm A Celebrity... Unpacked. While Danny is the first of the rumoured line-up to have taken off, with others expected to join him by taking flights throughout the week.
Among the rumoured campmates is Coleen Rooney, wife of footballer Wayne Rooney and known for her infamous Wagatha Christie trial with Rebekah Vardy. Tulisa Contostavlos, former X Factor judge and N Dubz singer, is also tipped to make a TV comeback on the show.
Boxing legend Barry McGuigan is another name in the mix, stepping in as the sportsman of the group after Ally McCoist dropped out. Bookies currently have Danny as the favourite to win, following in the footsteps of his McFly bandmate Dougie Poynter who won the show back in 2011.
Love Island's Maura Higgins is also reportedly set to spice things up down under, continuing her reality TV journey by joining the I'm a Celebrity camp. And adding to the list of celebs, internet sensation GK Barry, and ballroom queen Oti Mabuse, formerly of Strictly Come Dancing fame, are also anticipated arrivals in the Australian wilderness.
