The Hottest Holiday Beauty Trends — and How to Pull Them Off for Your Next Party
How to get the dramatic liner, pearl hair accessories and silver nails celebs are decked out with now
We don't need much of an excuse to get glam, but during the holidays we're even more excited than usual to get decked out. Maybe it's Mariah Carey blasting in the background, or the smell of our pine-scented candles filling the air, but at the first mention of party, we're pulling up to our vanities, and pulling inspo from celebs to create festive looks.
This season we're all about Kerry Washintgon's dramatic liner, Sydney Sweeney's pearl hair accessory and Selena Gomez's silver nails. And because we have Hollywood's hottest pros on speed-dial, we also got some fresh tips on how else to look our best from head to toe.
Kerry Washington's Festive Hair & Makeup
Have a special event coming up? Go all out with dramatic winged liner and a slicked-back updo like Kerry Washington’s at the Academy Museum Gala. The Unprisoned actress’s makeup artist Carola Gonzalez applied a satin-finish foundation to make her skin look flawless, plus a tawny-brown blush to add warmth to her complexion. For her eyes, Gonzalez applied three-to-five coats of mascara to amp up her lashes and created a “modern, playful” cat-eye effect using liquid eyeliner. "For someone who doesn’t want to wear a red lip for a holiday party, doing a fashionable, winged eye always fun and less traditional," Gonzalez says.

Meanwhile, hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew achieved what she calls an “expensive” vibe using hair extensions to add length to this twisted style along with a strong-hold hairspray to secure every strand in place and a serum for an extra-glossy finish. "The twist in the back is what gives it the look-of-the-moment feel," Sturdivant-Drew says.

Cool Tools
Any makeup pro will tell you that prepping your skin with products and tools is the secret to gorgeous glam. Gua Sha cryo sticks are easy to use and give you a lifted and sculpted look that would otherwise require a lot of contouring to create. Among its other benefits, says celebrity facialist Vee Mistry, “the skin will immediately appear more luminous.” Mistry says to store your sticks in the freezer for an icy-cold treat. To use, apply moisturizer, then move the sticks from
the midline of your face up toward your outer hairline several times.

Pearl Hair Accessories
For a premiere of Sydney Sweeney’s film Eden, hairstylist Glen Oropeza adorned the star’s hair with a pearl ribbon. He says the piece, which can also be worn as a headband or a choker, is an easy way to “elevate a simple look.”
"For anyone looking to spice up their hair for the holidays, pearls are such an easy touch: they don't require much commitment, and compliment so many outfits," Oropeza says. There's a style for everyone.

Silver Nails
’Tis the season to rock a metallic mani like the one Selena Gomez flashed at the Academy Museum Gala. Manicurist Tom Bachik, who used Olive & June’s new at-home gel system, says one coat creates a translucent frost on tips, while two get you a shimmery finish.
"I love how simple the Olive & June system is to apply," Bachik says. "The consistency of the gel allows it to apply smooth and evenly while the brush makes application a breeze. It’s perfect for the DIY user at home."

Shimmery Skin
"When I think of the holidays, shimmer and sparkle immediately come to mind," says makeup artist Carolina Dalí-Trites. So for the pro, there's no better time to use a body oil that will make skin radiant.
"For the ultimate glow, I first exfoliate my body in the shower. This helps remove dead skin cells which can make the skin look dry and dull," the pro says. Next, she dries her skin and applies a "hydrating (but not too slippery) body lotion, massaging a little more product on areas that need extra hydration like the knees, elbows and feet."
After waiting a minute or two, she sweeps on an even layer of her shimmering body oil. "Then I wait five to seven minutes before getting dressed to prevent any possible transfer to clothing," she says.
