The hotel we stayed at for our latest fashion shoot

saint jaume hotel review
Sant Jaume hotel: stylist-approved Saint Jaume, Good Housekeeping UK

After a relaxing Christmas break, January at Good Housekeeping had us diving straight into action. We kicked things off with a fashion shoot for the April and May issues and needed the perfect place to stay. It had to be centrally located in Palma, with great transport links, have stylish interiors ideal for shooting and also be a peaceful retreat to unwind in after each hectic day – a tall order indeed! Our team’s search led us to the perfect spot: Sant Jaume, a small designer boutique hotel that ticked all the boxes. It was the ideal base for our busy shoot, providing everything we needed.

From the moment we entered, we were struck by the hotel’s chic, minimalist design – it’s like walking into a contemporary home, with carefully curated design elements and a mix of sleek concrete in the reception area and warm wooden accents throughout. The hotel has an intimate, welcoming vibe that immediately makes you feel at ease, like you’re staying in someone’s private residence rather than a commercial hotel. This personal touch, paired with extremely helpful staff, made all the difference during our hectic schedule, when early call times and flying in different models for each shoot were the norm.

The rooms are beautifully minimal, with a neutral colour palette and wooden floors that create a serene atmosphere. Featuring oversized beds, plenty of space and beautiful views of the old town square, the rooms offer both style and comfort. After long, 12-hour days, the peaceful surroundings and comfortable beds ensured we woke up refreshed and ready to dive into the next shoot. Although there’s no seating area in the room, the desk space is ideal for work, and the bathroom is equally chic, with double sinks, a bath and a shower in a calming stone palette.

San Jaume goes above and beyond in attention to detail. From the welcome room spray to the refreshing water and nightly petits fours left by the bedside, it’s clear that every element has been carefully thought through to enhance the guest experience. This level of care made a real difference during our demanding schedule.

After long days of shooting, the hotel’s mini spa was a welcome sanctuary. With a small pool, jacuzzi and sauna, it was the perfect place in which to unwind. The hotel also allows you to privately hire the entire space, ideal for a group to relax after a day’s work.

The breakfast each morning was the perfect foundation for a busy day ahead, when quite often we didn’t know when our next chance to eat would be! The beautifully presented buffet offered a selection of continental options, with made-to-order hot dishes and eggs prepared any way you like. The hotel’s chic finishes were reflected in every detail, even at breakfast, making it an incredibly pleasant start to the day.

Sant Jaume’s location couldn’t be better. It’s within walking distance to Palma’s top attractions and just a five-minute stroll from El Camino, one of the team’s favourite restaurants. The balance of style, comfort and convenience made it the perfect choice for our fashion shoot, and it’s now firmly on my list for future trips to Palma. Whether you’re here for work, a city break or a long weekend getaway, this boutique hotel offers an ideal introduction to Palma. I’ll definitely be back – next time, I hope, just for me, not work!
