Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian emotionally says 'I don't feel like a fighter' in update amid cancer battle
Former Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian has shared a health update with fans amid her cancer battle. In the emotional post, she explains that “it is not an easy path”.
Last month, Ali told her followers that her diagnosis with stage two breast cancer had left her in "total shock". The actress, 42, explained that she was now receiving weekly chemotherapy treatment, and then early next year will undergo a mastectomy and also radiotherapy treatment. It was when she was breastfeeding her daughter Isabella that Ali discovered a lump in her breast. Doctors initially thought it could be a blocked duct, but when antibiotics failed to clear things up, she went to a specialist clinic where tests revealed the cancer.
In a new update posted on social media, Ali, who has appeared on the BBC1 series Doctors and also competed in the seventh series of Strictly Come Dancing, shared a snap of herself.

Wearing a grey shirt and a hair wrap around her head, she told followers: "Some days you don['t] my feel like the fighter people tell you you are, and that's ok too. This is not an easy path. There is cortisol in tears and they are better out than in."
Ali spoke to OK! about the diagnosis last month. She said: "It was a total shock. I have mornings when I wake up and I’ve forgotten… and then suddenly I remember. I’m still trying to process it.”
Her husband David O’Mahony added: “I was with the kids and Ali stuck her head round the door and said that cancerous cells had turned up in the biopsy. She said it in the most subtle way so the girls didn’t twig. I could see how scared and in shock she was. It’s so tempting to try and ‘positive’ your way through news like this but it just hit us like a sledgehammer. I just had a feeling of it being so unfair that Ali had been dealt this hand.”
Earlier this year she took to Instagram to post about her her hair loss in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The diagnosis came just months after Ali had relocated from London to rural Ireland with their two daughters, Isla and Isabella, and partner David.
The actress, who appeared as Becca Dean in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks from 2001 to 2007, explained on Instagram that she was feeling a major burn out caused by life in London and the challenges that followed her second pregnancy being some of the reasons she moved.
In May she spoke of a house "overlooking the ocean on the West Coast of Ireland" before her diagnosis which came a month later.
