Royal wedding music revealed: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirm music for nuptials

With less than a month to go until the royal wedding, the finer details about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials are coming thick and fast.

We already know who is doing the flowers, the photographer, the charities they’ll be honouring and we’ve got a *rough* idea of who will be designing the dress.

But there was one aspect that was missing: who will be performing at the wedding of the year?

Tweeting today, Kensington Palace revealed who the couple have decided to perform during their wedding service.

The Palace revealed that the music will be directed by James Vivian, Director of Music, St George’s Chapel and will feature a selection of musicians (both soloists and choirs) who will perform on the day.

Here are the lucky performers who will be setting the soundtrack to the big day…

Sheku Kanneh-Mason

First up is cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason. The Palace revealed that the musician – who first met Prince Harry when he played for him for a charity event in London – is the 2016 winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year award.

Kanneh-Mason was also the first black musician to win the award since its launch 38 years prior.

He was also the subject of BBC 4 documentary ‘Young, Gifted and Classical: The Making of a Maestro’.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason said of the news: “I’m so excited and honoured to perform at Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle’s wedding. I was bowled over when Ms. Markle called me to ask if I would play during the ceremony, and of course I immediately said yes. What a privilege to be able to play the cello at such a wonderful event. I can’t wait!”

Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir

Karen Gibson is the founder and director of The Kingdom Choir, an award-winning troupe of Christian Gospel singers hailing from South East England.

Their work has seen them land spots performing at the Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee and perform for other notable names like Bill Clinton and Nelson Mandela.

They’ve also shared a stage with the likes of Elton John, Luther Vandross, the Spice girls, Michael Ball, Leslie Garrett and Alexander O’Neal.

Karen Gibson said: “The Kingdom Choir is truly honoured to be invited to sing at the wedding of Prince Harry and Ms. Markle, and very excited to be taking part in such a historic moment. It will be a moment that we will always treasure, and we’d like to take the opportunity to wish the couple all the very best for their coming union.”

The Choir of St George’s Chapel

The royal couple with employ the Choir of St George’s Chapel, conducted by James Vivian.

The choir is made up of 23 boy choristers from St George’s School and twelve Lay Clerks singing alto, tenor and bass.

As for the rest of the day, the Orchestra playing on the day will be conducted by Christopher Warren-Green, will be made up of musicians from various Orchestras across England and Wales.

Joining the Orchestra will be Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, trumpeter David Blackadder and organist Luke Bond.

At Kate and William’s 2011 nuptials, performers included Ellie Goudling, Joss Stone, Westminster Abbey Choir, the Chapel Royal Choir and the London Chamber Orchestra.
