Half of Brits would like to WFH abroad, says new study – here are top destinations

While most of us have embraced working from home (WFH) over the last two years, sometimes gazing over your laptop and out of the window to see another Great British downpour has us all dreaming of sunnier climes.

So it may come as no surprise that almost half of us (47%) would be interested in working remotely from abroad.

People said that their main reasons for wanting to set up office in another country would be their love of travel (46%) and the positive impact it may have on their mental health (40%).

And 26% of Brits believed the cost of living may be cheaper in another country.

The research by instantprint compared key data from 26 countries such as Internet speed, visas, living costs and crime rates to find the top destinations for Brits wanting a complete change of scenery.

And the beautiful country of Georgia – between Eastern Europe and Western Asia – came out on top.

Despite its relatively low median internet speed of 19.68MBps, Georgia boasts a free initial visa offering a 12-month initial stay and a low crime rate, as well as a low average cost of living of just £817.11 per month.

Romania came in second place, with a faster Internet speed of 131.67MBps, a cost of living of just £383 per month but a much higher crime rate than Georgia.

The Czech Republic was third with a similar crime rate to Georgia, Internet speed of 49.29MBps, but a cost of living of £1187.31 per month.

Also making the top ten were Hungary, Estonia, Thailand, Portugal, Spain, Croatia and UAE.

But while some sun-kissed destinations may be favourites with us Brits for holidays, they didn't fare so well when it came to best places to work from home.

Despite its sandy white beaches and crystal blue seas, the Bahamas came bottom with an eye-watering £1,757.54 per person, per month, a relatively high crime rate score, median internet speeds of 36.27 MBps, and an initial visa cost of £839 (which allows you to stay for 12 months).

It seems the dream locations we'd pick to holiday in can differ entirely from the places we could afford to work long-term in.
