Hairy Bikers star Si King's heartbreaking confession after Dave Myers' death as he bags new show
The Hairy Bikers star Si King has shared a poignant revelation about his ongoing grief, 10 months after the tragic loss of his best friend and co-star Dave Myers. However, his emotional admission was balanced by the announcement of a new TV project during an interview on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.
Si, 58, fondly reminisced about his friendship with fellow Geordie Dave, with whom he hosted numerous cookery shows and co-authored several cookbooks. He told hosts Susanna Reid, 54, and Richard Madeley, 68, about the enduring strength of their bond, which has continued even after Dave's passing from cancer.
Dave, the other half of The Hairy Bikers duo, sadly passed away in February at the age of 66, after battling cancer since 2022 and keeping fans updated on his illness. On GMB, Si opened up about their bond, saying, "Just because he's passed, it doesn't stop him from being my best mate." When Richard asked if he still talks to Dave, Si replied, "Well, I nearly rang him up the other day. I thought, I haven't heard from him for yonks, then I thought 'oh' ..." "It's just that reflex, it's that reference point, me and Dave were both each others' reference point because of our friendships together."

He added, "The energy of Dave remains with us all who loved him. He was just fun." Si also revealed that he had completed a new cookbook that he and Dave had started together, with Dave having written a quarter of it before his passing. Host Susanna Reid had a hilarious moment on air when she had to correct Si, about the name of his new TV role. She said: "In fact, you have a new role in ITV daytime."
Si replied: "Yes I do - and I'm very much looking forward to it and thanks for the invitation. Yes I'm on good morning and I'm doing the cooking ..." Susanna quickly corrected him, saying: "You're on This Morning, we sometimes call it good morning!"
Si responded with a laugh: "Did I call it good morning? Well that's a good start isn't it - I can't even get the programme right." He then revealed he will be joining This Morning's resident chef roster, appearing once a month from January. Back in October, Si shared his struggle with wanting to quit television fame following Dave's death.
In an emotional interview with The Times he said: "I'll be honest with you, the past few months have been a struggle. More than once I was on the verge of jumping on my bike and heading into the sunset. Not tell anyone where I was going. Just clear off and never come back. Other times I was raging. Raging at that bloody disease, at God and anything else I could think of."
