Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson Is Looking Lean Having Lost 50kg Ahead of Boxing Debut
In preparation for his boxing debut later this month, former Game of Thrones star and former World's Strongest Man Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson has been putting in some serious work and has lost an incredible 50kg.
Björnsson – who is best known for his role as The Mountain in Game of Thrones – took to Instagram to reveal his weight loss, which has seen him go from swole to lean or as one commenter put it, "From Mountain to Rock".
In an accompanying YouTube video, Björnsson broke down his training and strict diet, which includes four meals and starts with a breakfast of three eggs, 200 grams of chicken and a smoothie made from 150 grams of yogurt, 100 grams of berries and 40 grams of oats.
Training wise, Björnsson and his trainer revealed that the man formerly known as The Mountain has been boxing training for a almost a year, and is just now learning how to use "his bodyweight, his balance and his sharpness".
In the video, Bjornsson finishes his boxing session with a spin on an assault bike, where he does 30 secs slow, 20 secs at a moderate intensity and 10 secs "super fast". He does this five times, rests for three minutes and then does the same thing another three to six times.
"I'm extremely happy with my shape right now," says Bjornsson. "When I started this journey, I weighed 205 kilograms. And now I'm down to 155. Feeling good, feeling healthy."
On May 28, Bjornsson will make his boxing debut against former commonwealth gold medal winning fighter Simon Vallily. The exhibition will be used as prep for Bjornsson's upcoming 'World's Strongest Fight' against fellow former strongman Eddie Hall, which is scheduled to take place in September 2021.
