This time of year is filled with festive cheer. Whether you’re opening presents with family on Christmas Day or ringing in the new year at your New Year’s Eve party, it’s a time of togetherness and excitement.

That being said, the holidays are also hec-tic! Santa has made his list and checked it twice, and so have you:

One thing you can cross off your list is wondering whether your local grocery store is open. I’ve done that work for you. Below is the list of major grocery stores along with their operating hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.

Most major grocery stores in the U.S. operate on adjusted holiday hours on Christmas Eve. The list below is a great starting place, but note many stores have regional hours, so give your local grocery store a call or check store hours using their location finder before heading over.

The vast majority of supermarkets are closed on Christmas Day with a couple of exceptions. Hours can vary depending on your location, so consult your local outlet for more information.

  • Albertsons: Open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. (select stores will be closed)

  • Safeway: Select locations will be open with varied hours
