Social media isn’t always the easiest place to hang out, but in a world of shiny, filtered posts you can always rely on Chrissy Teigen to keep it real.

And her latest tweet has got women celebrating a natural part of ageing that many people try to hide – grey hair.

While most 32-year-olds might choose to keep their silvery strands a secret, the pregnant star took to Twitter to share her newly developed streak in the most public way ever.

“I have a skunk like streak of grey hair and I’m actually very into it,” she wrote.

“My cruella dreams are coming true!”

And it seems Chrissy tweet really struck a chord with other women with grey, as within hours of sharing it had clocked up 56K likes, 1.6K retweets and almost a thousand comments from other women who have also chosen to embrace their silver locks.

“Me too! Own it own it own it” one woman wrote alongside an image of her own grey hair.

“#embracethegray” added another

“I have this too! Been dying it most of my life but now im wishing id let it run free!” another fan added.

“I always called them my silver highlights!”

Some fans have speculated that Chrissy’s grey hair development could be connected to the fact that she is currently pregnant with her second child and is therefore reluctant to use hair dye.

According to the NHS the chemicals in permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes are not highly toxic. “Most research, although limited, shows it’s safe to colour your hair while pregnant,” the site explains.

“Some studies have found that very high doses of the chemicals in hair dyes may cause harm. However, these doses are massive compared with the very low amount of chemicals a woman is exposed to when colouring her hair.”

Nevertheless, many women refrain from dying their hair when pregnant particularly during the earliest months (up to 12 weeks) when the risk of chemical substances harming the baby is much lower.

If you are pregnant and colouring your hair yourself, the site suggests some precautions you can take to further reduce the risk including wearing cloves, leaving the dye on for minimum time, working in a well-ventilated room and rising your scalp once the dye is applied.

As Chrissy’s followers will no doubt already appreciate, there is no such thing as TMI when it comes to the star’s social media posts.

Earlier this week she shared a very funny video featuring her husband John Legend, helping her squeeze into a pair of maternity spandex.

And she also recently opened up about her uneven boobs that she believes was caused by breastfeeding.
