Gogglebox star Giles' worrying insight into marriage with Mary - 'We're incompatible'

Gogglebox's beloved couple, Giles Wood and Mary Killen, known for their unfiltered opinions while on the air, have been married for a whopping 30 years and on-screen on the Channel 4 show for nine of those.

And while the pair crack viewers up with their back-and-forth on the show while watching TV from their Wilshire cottage, Giles has now revealed that things aren't always so chatty when the cameras are off.

Chatting with Idler earlier this year, Giles recalled not talking to anyone for months on end during lockdown - including rarely conversing with his wife. He lamented: "You see, I've had six months of not talking to anyone. That's the thing about living in the country, who do you talk to?".

"The pub's shut. I don't go to church. Who am I supposed to talk to? " he tossed out rhetorically, reports the Liverpool Echo. After it was suggested that he could spare some words with his wife, Mary, Giles amusingly admitted: "Mary hardly talks to me, we're incompatible."

He also revealed that their daily interaction mainly veered around deciding which TV show to tune into at night and confessed: "We're distracting our lives away."

It's not the first time that the duo has been open about their marital issues before. Mary once stated: "The thing about Giles is he's 48% bad but 52% good. It gets worse every year".

Giles and Mary first met at the age of 21. Giles was studying at Wimbledon Art School at the time, while Mary was a model. The duo joined Gogglebox in 2015 and initially, Giles was set to take part in the show alongside his daughter, but she declined to take part so he convinced Mary to do it instead.

Fans of the show will know the unique pet name Giles and Mary have for one another “nutty”.

Discussing the matter with The Daily Star, Mary revealed: “We call each other 'nutty' because we both consider the other to be a bit mad. Certainly, Giles has multiple personality disorders so he’s all sorts of people and one of them is a bit of a genius. The truth is we’re both neurotic."

She continued: "I have a low tolerance for things like whistling. He hates it when the phone rings and just sits there demanding ‘who on earth is that?' instead of answering it.
