GH readers recommend one of the best cruises to book in Alaska
If you’re looking for an outdoorsy American adventure, Alaska is the perfect place to go. Not only is it the biggest of all 50 US states, but it also has the longest coastline, making a cruise the ideal way to discover its spectacular landscapes.
And we’ve just made choosing the right one easier by recognising Holland America Line for its Alaska cruise experience with the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Reader Recommended endorsement.
As part of our independent review process, 94% of readers rated its overall onboard experience seven or higher out of 10, while 90% said they would recommend an Alaska cruise with Holland America Line to friends and family.
95% of our readers said they enjoyed learning about glacier history with onboard experts, and 93% found the Alaska National Parks “mesmerising and enjoyable”.
Holland America Line has sailed its ships around this vast state since 1947 – longer than any other cruise line. May through to September is considered the best time to travel to the region, which includes the stunning UNESCO World Heritage-listed Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, where Holland America Line guests get privileged access.
The wildlife is equally impressive and, if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see orca whales feeding and playing in the waters off Juneau and Ketchikan, as well as grizzly bears feasting on salmon in Denali National Park and Preserve.
Karen Farndell, director of sales and marketing at Holland America Line, says: “We are incredibly proud to receive the ‘Reader Recommended’ endorsement from the Good Housekeeping Institute – one of the UK’s most trusted marks of quality. This recognition is especially meaningful, as it comes directly from guests who’ve sailed with us.
As the cruise line with the most Alaskan wildlife and wilderness viewing opportunities, we remain committed to delivering the very best of the region, from our exclusive Alaska Glacier Guarantee to our fresh, sustainable, wild-caught local seafood. We’re proud that so many of our guests would cruise with us again and look forward to welcoming even more people on board.”
I’ll be doing my first Alaska cruise with Holland America line in May this year and can’t wait to see the wonders of this Great Land (The name “Alyeska”, which also means “the great land”, comes from the indigenous Aleut language), especially now I know how much our readers recommend it!
