Gavin & Stacey star James Corden has made a huge Smithy curry order confession. On Monday morning, December 23, the actor and comedian was joined by the comedy show's co-creator and friend Ruth Jones for a special edition of BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, titled A Gavin and Stacey Takeover!.

The duo were joined by the show's beloved cast, including Mathew Horne, who plays Gavin, Joanna Page who plays Stacey, Rob Brydon who plays the iconic Uncle Bryn, Alison Steadman, who plays Pam, and Larry Lamb, who plays Mick. During the programme, the cast spoke about filming the show, which has been on air and in our hearts since 2007, as well as reading out their fans messages sent during the radio show. On the radio show, Corden was asked if he had ever tried Smithy's iconic curry order and if he would recommend it. In series three of the comedy show, Smithy orders "chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan and nine poppadoms... and a saag aloo."

The order, delivered in one of TV's most memorable rants after he's faced with the risk of sharing his food, is so well-known that it's now sold on tea towels, t-shirts and mugs across the UK, especially on Barry Island in the Vale of Glamorgan. Our very own reporter decided to try out this colossal takeaway order for himself, which you can read more about here.

In response to the question, Corden, who got all the curries, chips, rice and poppadoms, confessed that he had "never tried it" and then asked Alison Steadman if she had "ever given it a go", to which she replied with: "No, I haven't". Ruth then asked her: "What would be your order in an Indian restaurant, Alison?". In response, she said: "I could just sit there and eat poppadoms. I love poppadoms."

With laughter, Ruth remarked that her response was "quite a Pamela answer". Later, Joanna Page revealed that she had met someone who had taken the curry order scene a set further. She said: "I met a man and he's got your face tattooed on his stomach and the whole of the Indian order.

"I was shocked at first, but then I got quite jealous because no one has ever tattooed my face on them. Not that I know of. If anyone has tattooed my face on their body, will you let me know", to which Mathew Horne jokingly interjected with: "I think it's time to reveal something."

Fans of the show quickly informed James he'd forgotten one major thing - with all thay bhuna sauce you definitely need a naan, but the actor and writer missed it out. "Keema Naan!!! Very important," cried one avid listener and another said: "He forgot the keema naan."

Last time we saw the Gavin & Stacey characters was five years ago, back in another Christmas Special, which aired in 2019, where Nessa got down on one knee and asked Smithy to marry her. You can find out more about the airdate, teaser, trailer and what the cast members have said so far here.

Co-writer of the show James also confirmed that he will be watching the final episode with Ruth, noting: "Our families will be watching it together. We watched the last special together. There's no one else I could really watch it with."

Confirming that this was the final ever episode, Joanna also said on Morning Live on Friday, December 20: "It is the last last ever one it has been so emotional, just saying goodbye to everybody... When I read the script and I saw that my first... I nearly, you nearly got me to say something then! But I saw that I'm sitting with Ruth, she's playing the mouth organ and I'm in the rickshaw at the back, I was just like 'oh we are back with a bang!' this is brilliant."
