The stars of Gavin & Stacey are reuniting again — but not quite in the way fans are expecting. There is still no official announcement about a sequel to last year's Christmas special, but fans will be able to see Stacey (Joanna Page) and Gwen (Melanie Walters) back on telly together very soon.

The duo will be taking part in celebrity editions of Rylan Clark-Neal and Jennie McAlpine's Supermarket Sweep from September 1, where they'll have to rely on teamwork to topple the Inflatables and the Pick 'n' Mix.

They also join an all-star line-up of famous duos, including Frankie and Wayne Bridge, Joe Swash and Radzi Chinyanganya, The Masked Singer UK's Joel Dommett and Denise Van Outen, JLS's JB Gill and Aston Merrygold, as well as Martine McCutcheon and husband Jack McManus.

I'm a Celebrity queens Scarlett Moffatt and Jacqueline Jossa, football legends Harry Redknapp and Paul Merson, soap stars Rita Simons and Chizzy Akudolu, Diversity's Jordan Banjo and Perri Kiely, Emmerdale couple Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden, father and son Martin and Roman Kemp, The X Factor Celebrity's Jenny Ryan and Megan McKenna and Loose Women stars Andrea McLean and Nadia Sawalha are also among the celebrities taking part this autumn on ITV2.

Rylan Clark-Neal dropped hints about Supermarket Sweep's return last week, when he confirmed that production had finished on the new series.

As for the future of Gavin & Stacey, series star Larry Lamb has told OK! Magazine that he's "more or less" certain that the show will be back to answer the Christmas cliffhanger at some point.

"After the response it got at Christmas you can more or less be certain that, sooner or later, there will be more," he said.

"I'm sure the BBC can persuade Ruth [Jones] and James [Corden] to write more, so it's a question of when not if."

BBC One most recently re-aired classic episodes of the sitcom on Saturdays to keep viewers entertained during the pandemic.
