Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters was left red-faced during filming for the Christmas special, due to an awkward mishap behind-the-scenes.

The cast of the much-loved sitcom reunited in 2024 to film the show's last ever episode, which finally revealed Smithy (James Corden) and Nessa's (Ruth Jones) fate after a five-year wait.

Behind-the-scenes, Melanie, who plays Gwen West in the show, gave her co-stars a shock when she began stripping off, unaware that the cameras were still rolling.

Speaking alongside Joanna Page, the show's Stacey Shipman actress, the pair recalled the hilarious moment.

Joanna shared: "We chatted to her on Zoom and stuff and they said, 'Right we're going to go now because we're coming to the end of the show'. And they obviously must've left it running because we were all going to do a big goodbye, so they assumed Mel would be included in it as well."

"And this is where I went wrong," the 62-year-old actress chimed in. "She thought we'd just say goodbye and she was going," Joanna continued.

Believing she was off-camera during some spare time, Melanie decided to get changed, completely unaware that the cast and crew could still see her on a big screen in the studio.

Joanna went on to say that while having an emotional moment with Matthew Horne, she then all of a sudden saw her co-star on the screen taking her clothes off.

"I'm sitting on the sofa with Matt all of a sudden he went, 'Jo, Mel is taking her clothes off. She doesn't think that we're watching her, she doesn't think we're still on camera, they haven't turned it off she's still on camera'."

Joanna said as she looked up, all she could see was Melanie stood there in a brown vest and pants as she moved around the room.

"I thought, Oh God, I can't let this happen, I had to warn her," she laughed.

The actress said, while shaking, she immediately rushed to send her co-star a message, which read: "Mel, stop! We can see you!"

Thankfully, although after a while, she read the text and stopped what she was doing.

"I was just about to take my top off," Mel recalled, laughing on the Off The Telly podcast.

"It was absolutely hilarious," Joanna chimed in, to which her co-star added: "It was mortifying."
