Food and lifestyle influencer Rebecca Wylie Simms has died at age 39, per an Instagram announcement shared by her twin and business partner, Sarah.
According to the post on Monday, Jan. 21, Simms — who was affectionally called "Boo" by her loved ones — suffered "a tragic surgery complication" this past week. "This loss is immeasurable, and our hearts are completely shattered," wrote Sarah, who co-owned the beloved L.A. cheese shop Lady & Larder with her late sister.
"Boo was our magic maker, our color painter, and the brightest light I have ever known. We ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate this overwhelmingly painful time," continued the social media announcement, which was posted by the Lady & Larder account.
Sarah also stated that the store's location in Carmel Valley "will be closed until further notice." She added, "Our Santa Monica location will remain open to serve you with the continued love and care that Boo always poured into everything we do."
Simms shared two kids — daughters Mavis Loretta, 3, and Bertie Lou, 2 — with husband Sean Montes. In addition to her work with Lady & Larder, she also acted as creative director of Lazy Dog Restaurants, as noted in her Instagram bio.
Over 1,000 fans and followers flooded the comments on Sarah's heartbreaking post updating their audience of Simms' death. A number of celebrity friends of the California-based businesswomen penned their grief and support in reply.
"Oh sarah. i’m so beyond sorry for your loss. sending you and your family so much love 💔," wrote Busy Philipps. Mark Duplass offered a similar sentiment, commenting, "Sending you all of our love. And a promise to carry forward her indomitable spirit and radical positivity."
Mandy Moore called the news "beyond heartbreaking" and addressed Sarah directly: "We love you and your family so much. There are no words but holding you and her beautiful family in my heart," she said.
Earlier this month, Simms commemorated the start of 2025 on social media, where she uploaded several photos of her children celebrating the new year on the beach.
"My toast for 2025: may we remember to wake up and dance. Listen more. Linger longer. Make gratitude our aesthetic," she wrote alongside her last Instagram post. "Go hard on the problem and soft on the person. Pick up the phone. Get our hands dirty. Mail more letters. Buy the hat. Sing louder. Surrender to the surprises. Go slowly. Follow what makes you feel. Be amazed by it all."
Simms' caption continued, "I looked back at my list of goals from 1/1/24 and 90% are still waiting to get crossed off. And that’s okay. This is an official reminder that goals rollover and don’t expire. May we trust the process. Give grace to ourselves and others."
