Don’t believe everything you see on social media. That’s the message Tiffany Brien wants her followers to know. The fitness blogger has shared a photo of her bloated tummy in order to let others know that everyone can have a bad body day.

Posting side-by-side pictures of her stomach taken just 12 hours apart, one before bed, and one after she’d just woken up, Tiffany’s stomach in the pre-bed picture is really bloated, while in the first thing snapshot it’s completely flat.

“No I’m not 6 months pregnant. It’s just my food baby…,” she wrote in the accompanying Facebook post. “We are not all what we seem on social media. I thought I would share a bad day with you to show you nobody is ‘perfect’ and it is ok to have an off day where your body just decides to not play ball. Don’t worry girls, it happens to the best of us.”

Tiffany attributed her bloated belly to lack of sleep, hormones and food intolerances, which is “a mixture for a whole lotta bloat” and told followers it was something she’d been struggling with for years. Though sometimes she can work out what has triggered the bloating, which often happens at inopportune moments, like when she’s wearing a tight dress, on this occasion she wasn’t sure what had caused it.

“This photo is a bad day, a day I cannot tell you exactly what I ate that made me blow up. I have gone over everything I ate and I was relatively clean so it could be something I think is “healthy” that my body now thinks naaa no likey,” she wrote.

“Sometimes your body becomes intolerable to something you’ve always eaten, you just have to work it out. Fun game though? No. Not really.”

Alongside hormones and lack of sleep, the 26-year-old, who was Miss Northern Ireland in 2012, admitted that stress also affects her negatively.

“I have to factor in de-stress time to help me unwind and allow my insides to untwist after a tough day in the office. Yoga, walks with the dog or just putting my feet up and watching Netflix normally do the trick.”

But the fitspo star doesn’t want to be put on some kind of ‘perfect’ pedestal.

“I am in no way perfect. In fact I am miles away from being a role model when it comes to looking after myself fully in this sense,” she explained.

Her post has since been shared over 4,375 times on Facebook, with users praising her for refreshing honesty.

“I LOVE your honesty and it takes real courage these days for people to be truly honest in words and pics with all the bodyshaming blablabla your lovely tiff don’t ever change!” wrote one follower.

“I just needed this today - a great read which has really made me feel a whole lot better about myself - it’s good to know folks like you have off days too as you always look so gorge in your photos! Thanks for keeping it real!!” wrote another

“So glad you are highlighting this as I know there is a lot of pressure on people to look a certain way but bodies don’t always play ball as you said.”

Tiffany finished her post by offering a few tips to others those who also suffer from bloating including getting more sleep, keeping a food diary and drinking peppermint tea. But the most important piece of advice she can offer others is far more simple.

“Relax and be happy,” she says. “It’ll be ok, you’re not alone. Promise.”
