Mothers' Instinct, starring Oscar winners Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, has dropped its first trailer.

A remake of 2018's psychological thriller Duelles, which is again directed by Belgian filmmaker Olivier Masset-Depasse, Mothers' Instinct finds Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway in 1960s suburbia as neighbours Alice and Céline.

But when Alice fails to save Céline's young son, who tragically falls to his death, their friendship takes a heavy turn into paranoia.

The trailer for Mothers' Instinct shows Jessica's character seemingly losing her grip on reality, believing that Céline could be orchestrating a similar accident for her child.

"She thinks that I should've saved her son," Alice tells her husband, played by Anders Danielsen Lie (Bergman Island).

"Is that coming from her... or you?" he replies.

Back when the project began shooting in 2022, Jessica and her production partner Kelly Carmichael issued a statement lauding production company Neon, describing the company as "a true filmmaker's haven".

"Their unique vision and distinctive campaigns are a reflection of their mission to bring the best and most diverse cinematic experience to US audiences," the statement continued.

"Mothers' Instinct will be in excellent hands with Tom [Quinn, co-founder] and the team."
