First-look photo shows Kate Winslet and daughter in new Channel 4 drama

Mare of Easttown star Kate Winslet is returning to TV in the upcoming Channel 4 drama I Am Ruth – and now we have a first look at her latest project.

Winslet stars alongside her real-life daughter Mia Threapleton (whom she shares with her ex-husband Jim Threapleton) in the upcoming show, with the photo below giving us our first look at the two in character.

Winslet plays Ruth, the mum of Threapleton's Freya, who's facing a problem that's sadly all too prevalent in the world right now. Ruth starts to become concerned for her daughter after she starts to notice her behavior and demeanor seriously change for the worse as she spends more time on social media.

"I can safely say with my hand on heart that I will never forget the things we learnt as we made this piece," Winslet said in a statement, praising creator Dominic Savage.

"The low-key, quiet nature in which we put this together is how I aspire to work all the time. Often creative environments can be big and overwhelming, but part of Dominic's directorial process is to keep things to a bare minimum and just focus on the actors and the world we are creating alongside him, and with his unwavering support," she continued.

"It was a privilege and an inspiration to work with Dominic Savage. He's simply extraordinary," she added.

I Am Ruth is part of Channel 4's I Am series, which tells important stories about real-life issues. Previous episodes have included I Am Kirsty starring The Walking Dead's Samantha Morton and I Am Hannah with Humans' Gemma Chan.

I Am Ruth will air on Channel 4.
