Boiled egg and soldiers, alphabetti spaghetti, all washed down with a coke float = the menu of dreams for a 90s child.

Yep, today’s throwback Thursday has us reminiscing about the foods that we grew up chowing down on.

New research of British adults, by cinema chain, Vue, has revealed a list of 40 culinary triggers, which at first smell or bite, have us tumbling right back to our childhood.

The study, of 2,000 adults, unveiled the foods, which most remind Brits of their childhood years.

Unsurprisingly, mum’s roast dinner came out top, with over a third of us (34%) picking that as our fave food throwback.

Rice pudding (31%), soft boiled eggs and soldiers (30%), fish fingers (29%) and arctic roll (28%) made up the top five nostalgic faves.

With choc ices, Findus crispy pancakes and Vienetta also making it onto the list of instant memory triggers.

Though they could hardly be described as fine dining, it seems these foods are totally tied up with British identities with around four out of five (78%) of respondents saying they feel nostalgic just thinking about the foods they enjoyed as a child.

In fact, according to the poll, the smell and taste of certain foods takes half of us right back to our happy place, while 43% said food which reminded them of their childhood made them feel comforted.

But not all nostalgic foods are made equal with some dishes of old drudging up some unpleasant memories.

Over a quarter of us (26%) cited liver as their least favourite food memory, followed by soggy cabbage (25%) and lumpy mash (22%). Bleugh!

Also, making us wince with every painful bite was spam (19%), lumpy gravy (17%) and cold custard (12%).
