Which films will be released in 2024 and 2025?
From the Gladiator sequel starring Normal People's Paul Mescal to the highly anticipated movie adaptation of hit musical Wicked and the animated Disney prequel Mufasa: The Lion King, it seems we have lots to look forward to on the big screen this year. And, of course, the iconic Bridget Jones will soon be back for Bridget Jones' Diary 4: Mad About The Boy.

Verity
Release date: TBC
Anne Hathaway is set to star in the upcoming thriller Verity, which is based on the Colleen Hoover novel of the same name. The plot follows a struggling young writer, Lowen Ashleigh, who is offered the job of finishing bestselling author Verity Crawford's novels after she suffers a mysterious accident. Hired by Verity's husband, Jeremy, Lowen soon discovers an unsettling secret and realises that this perfect family is not all as it seems...
The new project will reunite Hathaway with director Michael Showalter, who worked with her on the recent Amazon MGM film The Idea of You.
Wuthering Heights
Release date: TBC
From the mastermind behind hit Saltburn, an adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights is officially in the works with a stellar A-list cast.
Filmmaker Emerald Fennell's latest project will star Barbie's Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Saltburn's Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. The adaptation of the classic novel is said to be in pre-production with shooting set to start in 2025. There's no word yet on a release date, so watch this space...
Bridges Jones' Diary 4: Mad About The Boy
Release date: 14 February 2025
Almost a decade since we last saw Bridget Jones on our screens, the '00s icon is back for Bridget Jones' Diary 4. The new film will be based on the novel of the same name, Mad About The Boy, by Helen Fielding, and will land on Valentine's Day next year.
Joy
Release date: 22 November
Joy tells the remarkable true story behind the ground-breaking birth of Louise Joy Brown in 1978, the world’s first ‘test-tube-baby’, and the tireless 10-year journey to make it possible. Starring James Norton, Bill Nighy and Thomasin McKenzie.

Gladiator II
Release date: 15 November 2024
The trailer for the highly anticipated Gladiator II has been released, and if it's anything to go by we're in for a treat with this sequel. It stars Normal People's Paul Mescal as Lucius, a gladiator, who despite his status as the nephew of corrupt former Emperor Commodus, is fighting for his life.
The sequel also stars Denzel Washington, Djimon Hounsou and Pedro Pascal.

Wicked
Release date: 15 November 2024
Another highly anticipated release, the movie adaption of hit musical Wicked will land in cinemas later this year, and we can't wait.
Starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the Wizard of Oz prequel tells the story of the unlikely friendship between witches Glinda and Elphaba and how, after an encounter with the Wizard of Oz, their lives begin to take very different paths.

Emilia Perez
Release date: 13 November 2024
Emilia Pérez has been described as an "audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations".
Through liberating song and dance and bold visuals, this film follows the journey of four women in Mexico, each pursuing their own happiness. The fearsome cartel leader Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón) enlists Rita (Zoe Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self.
Written and directed by Audiard (Rust and Bone, A Prophet), the double Cannes-winning film also stars Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, and Edgar Ramírez.

Mufasa: The Lion King
Release date: 20 December 2024
The prequel to the 2019 CGI-animated remake of The Lion King is not to be missed. Landing in cinemas in December, Mufasa: The Lion King stars Aaron Pierre as the voice of Mufasa, alongside Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter. Christmas cinema date, anyone?

Downton Abbey 3
Release date: 12 September 2025
Downton fans will be delighted to hear that a third film is in the works, although we have a while to wait as the release date has been confirmed for September 2025.
Julian Fellowes will be back directing, while the majority of the cast (from Michelle Dockery to Hugh Bonneville) are expected to return for the Crawleys' latest adventure.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Release date: 6 September 2024
Starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (directed by Tim Burton) tells the story of the Deetz family who return home to Winter River following a tragedy.
But, what happens when Lydia's (Ryder) daughter Astrid (Ortega) opens a portal into the afterlife? You'll have to wait until September 2024 to find out.

Challengers
Release date: Out now
With Zendaya at the forefront, Challengers follows the love triangle between injured tennis-player-turned-coach Tashi, her tennis champion husband, Art, and her low-circuit tennis player ex, Patrick, across 13 years, culminating in a big match at the ATP Challenger Tour.
