Props to this news presenter for shutting down a panel guest who told her to come to work in her underwear.

Fresh from writing about the Japanese bar that gives women a discount based on the height of their heels, here’s another sexism story about what women should or shouldn’t wear.

Earlier this week, Faye D’Souza, the editor of ‘Mirror Now’ news channel in India, was hosting a panellist-lead debate about women’s dress in the country.

The panel was discussing the criticism Priyanka Chopra recently faced for wearing a dress to meet PM Narendra Modi, and another actress, Fatima Sana Shaikh, who was attacked for wearing a swimming costume during Ramadan.

While many called out the abuse the women faced for their clothes-choices, one guest, Islamic cleric Maulana Yasoob, had an alternative opinion and told D’Souza that if she wants to be treated as an equal, she should try turning up to work in her underwear.

Thankfully, D’Souza was well up to the task of responding.

“Maulana threatened me to show up to my work place wearing underwear because I want to be equal to men,” she said, after asking the panel to maintain a two minute silence.

“This is my temple, this is my workplace,” she continued. “He hopes that he will rile me up. He hopes that I will throw a fit, and lose control of my panel – and that I will forget how to do my job”

“Let me tell you Maulana, I have seen lots of men like you. I am not afraid of you, I am not threatened by you, and I am not rattled by you.”
