Fashion Week styling hacks to try at home
Shorts and sandals may still feel like a distant dream, but, on planet fashion, we’re already talking about next autumn/winter. So why not get not one, but two steps ahead of the game? We’ve swiped these nifty styling hacks straight from the Fashion Week catwalks. And the best bit? Most of them won’t cost you a penny.
Wear Two Coats
Feeling the chill? Rejoice, because the likes of Tome and Thakoon have officially made the double coat a thing. Tick off the layering, hi-shine and tonal colour blocking trends in one hit by layering a vinyl mac over a faux fur jacket in a similar shade, or play with proportion by layering a midi mac over a slightly longer one. Alternatively, make like a Calvin Klein girl and layer a statement waistcoat over your workaday blazer.
Turn Your Trash Into Treasure
Who hasn’t got a stash of odd earrings and broken necklaces they can’t quite bring themselves to bin stuffed away somewhere? Well, guess what? Those little gems are set to come into their own again. Wear a single statement earring as at 3.1 Phillip Lim, or take inspiration from the Oscar de la Renta runway and opt for mismatching studs. Alternatively, pin earrings, brooches and strands of beads to a pair of black canvas kicks for a whole new take on athleisure, a la Libertine.
Tie A Ribbon Round It
Around what, you ask? Well, pretty much anything you can think of, really. Take a tip from Carolina Herrera and Phillip Lim, whose models sported ribbon-tied necks, waists and feet. The perfect way to jzuzh up a tired old shirt, coat or pair of courts? We think so.
Get Ahead With Embellishment
Altuzarra’s statement Alice bands rocked the runways at New York Fashion Week this season. Customise your own masterpiece by covering a plain hairband in fabric or simply sticking a few pearls, jewels or sequins onto it. You can sew any leftovers onto your favourite faux fur jacket for a twofer wardrobe update – genius.
