Why all eyes will be on Sarah Ferguson at Princess Eugenie's wedding
Like any mother of the bride, Sarah, Duchess of York has been helping her youngest daughter Princess Eugenie plan and prepare for her wedding day tomorrow.
Although Fergie, as she’s known, seems to have been accepted back into the royal fold, it hasn’t been an easy ride for her over the years.
She and Andrew may have remained on good terms after their divorce in 1996, but her relationships with other members of the royal family are said to be fraught.
While the spotlight will be on the bride, there’s no doubt that eyes will also be on Fergie.
According to reports, she and the Duke of Edinburgh have a long-standing feud, dating back to 1992.
It began when pictures emerged of Fergie laying on a sunlounger, having her toes sucked by her ‘financial advisor’ John Bryan. It was the same year she separated from Andrew.
Further fuel was added to the fire with reports of Fergie’s money troubles and spending.
In 2010, the Duchess was accused of accepting a £500,000 bribe from a News of the World journalist in exchange for “access” to Prince Andrew. A video recording of their conversation was shortly released to the media.
Prince Philip wasn’t the only royal said to be enraged by the scandals. An alleged letter from Princess Margaret to Fergie, at the time of the toe sucking photos, claims “you have done more to bring shame on the royal family than could have ever been imagined.”
But in recent years, the Duchess has been invited back into the fold, with invites to Balmoral and Ascot.
She has been making an impact with her charity work, having recently announced a Street Child appeal for children affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia.
Fergie also made a prominent appearance at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May, after her noticeable absence at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials in 2011.
2018 has been dubbed the year of the comeback for the Duchess of York and tomorrow is the moment she’ll take up her prized seat alongside the Duke in the chapel, as she watches her daughter walk down the aisle.
