Exclusive: New Jersey’s Most Expensive Listing Is This $28 Million Equestrian Estate
It should come as no surprise that the most expensive home for sale in New Jersey right now is in Colts Neck, one of the Garden State’s wealthiest enclaves.
Asking a whopping $27.9 million, the enormous, 160-acre property is actually an established equestrian estate known as WellSpring Stables. The sellers, Dr. Robert and Laura Vukovich, are dedicated to the breeding, sale, and racing of world-class thoroughbreds, which makes sense why they decided to settle down in central Jersey’s horse country.

“We were first attracted to the large farm space for expansion of our thoroughbred racing business and establishment of a home for our growing family,” the Vukovichs, who purchased the spread in 1999, told Robb Report. Today, the elaborate compound includes a 25,000-square-foot main house, a detached farmhouse dating back to the 1890s, and a top-of-the-line barn with 24 oversized stalls.
Altogether, the principal pad spans four floors and comprises seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. It’s clear that the Vukovichs spared no expense during its construction. The exterior is wrapped in imported Jerusalem limestone, and inside, you’ll find hand-sculpted artisan carpentry throughout. One of the many notable highlights includes a light-filled conservatory that was custom-built in England. “It’s a great way to spend a sunny morning with coffee and a newspaper or a book, or for a short nap,” the Vukovichs said.
Elsewhere, the mansion is decked out with a 3,500-bottle wine cellar, a swanky 12-seat movie theater, a private fitness center, and an Olympic-size pool in the backyard. Nearby, the restored farmhouse offers an additional five bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths if you plan on having guests.
For those interested in the equestrian facilities, the main barn was built in 2008 by Pennsylvania Dutch artisans. Here, you’ll find everything from tack and equipment rooms to an owner’s office, hay loft, and wash stalls. Plus, there’s a two-bed manager apartment located overhead. The grounds also include an exercise ring and roomy, fenced-in pastures for total privacy.

“Besides being the priciest listing in New Jersey, this magnificent equestrian manor exemplifies everything that’s beautiful in the Garden State,” added Compass agents Tom Postilio and Mickey Conlon, who recently put Judge Judy’s New York City penthouse up for sale.
Over the years, the bucolic Monmouth County town of Colts Neck has drawn celebrities such as Bruce Springsteen and Queen Latifa. The Boss, who grew up in Freehold, has a horse farm of his own in Colts Neck, where his daughter Jessica trained as a showjumping rider. Actress and musician Queen Latifah also owned property here; however, she sold the nine-acre spread back in 2015.
