What's occurring? Well, it's the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special! That's right, we're heading back to Barry this festive season as the beloved sitcom is returning to our screens for the final time.
Co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones, who star as Smithy and Nessa, took to Instagram back in May to announce that the show will be back for one more episode that will air on Christmas Day 2024.
There's been a lot of speculation since then about which cast members will return, what the plot will be and more. So, here is everything you need to know about the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special...

Ahead of the release of the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special, a new image of the cast has been released, plus they have revealed that they had mixed emotions about heading back for a final episode in a new interview with the BBC. Speaking about writing and filming the last episode, Ruth Jones said: "It was a mixture of excitement, nostalgia and sadness. Sad of course because this is the last time these characters will ever be on screen again, but so exciting to bring them to life again. And nostalgic because we’d be on set with the cast and we’d go down memory lane remembering the early episodes."
James Corden added: "It felt incredible. I mean for a long time when Ruth and I were writing the show we actually didn’t know if it would ever come to fruition because really what we’ve always done is just write it for ourselves and then figure out if we think it might be good enough for an audience. It just felt so good to be back in a room with Ruth and then thinking we may have happened on a story which might be satisfying."
Joanna Page, who plays Stacey in the hit series, recalled receiving the final script: "It was really exciting when I received the script. I was driving home from another job and I pulled into the services. I was standing and waiting at the counter for a burger, and I looked down at my phone and suddenly it came up and I thought, oh my God, I’ve got this thing on my phone which loads of people here in the service station would love to see!" Larry Lamb, who stars as Mick, simply added: "Well, as ever a masterpiece, I loved it, it's fabulous."
We can't wait to see it!
The BBC also recently released the first look image for Gavin and Stacey: The Finale, the upcoming Christmas special, reuniting the gang – James Corden as Smithy, Matthew Horne as Gavin, Joanna Page as Stacey and Ruth Jones as Nessa – and recreating the iconic image of the cast that was first taken 17 years ago.
Spoiler alert if you didn't watch the last instalment, but eagle-eyed fans may have spotted that Nessa isn't wearing a wedding ring in the new picture, leaving us wondering exactly what happened after her proposal to Smithy at the end of the 2019 Christmas special... We'll have to wait until the release date on Christmas Day to find out!

When the series returned in 2019, it ended on a huge cliffhanger when Nessa, played by Jones, got down on one knee to propose to Smithy, played by Corden. So, five years later, it's likely we'll find out if he said yes! Here's the official synopsis:
"It's five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her...and a lot has happened in those five years.
"In Barry, Bryn's packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex, Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their 17-year marriage, and Gwen is behaving most strangely.
"Nessa's started a new business venture and Neil the Baby's about to begin an apprenticeship with his dad. Over in Billericay, Pam is stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly retired Mick practicing his golf swings in the living room, and there have been more ups and downs in Pete and Dawn's relationship."
