'Heartstopper' Creator Alice Oseman Shares Exciting Details About Season 4
With the new season of Heartstopper fresh on our screens, it would be amiss to not to think ahead about the future of the beloved Netflix coming-of-age series.
Following the release of season three on October 3, we've once again been immersed into the lives of Nick and Charlie and their classmates as they navigate love, relationships, identity, family, mental health and life beyond high school.
The latest series still harnesses all the heartwarming energy of the the web comic-turned-graphic novel-turned-TV fan favourite, as well as featuring a surprise appearance from Bridgerton's Jonathon Bailey. But what's next for our favourite characters?

Has 'Heartstopper' season four been renewed?
In previous years, new seasons of Heartstopper have been announced just a month after the release of the previous one. So, if this is anything to go by, we should hopefully expect to hear a renewal announcement from Netflix by early November.
Given that it has stayed in the Netflix's top 10 spot since its release, and has already received a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, we don't see why the much loved show wouldn't be renewed.
During an interview with Tudum, the show's creator and writer Alice Oseman confirmed that she is currently in talks with both Netflix and Heartstopper's production company, See-Saw Films, about what is next for season four of the TV series.
'In terms of the show, obviously there is more story in the books that we have yet to cover, and we would love to tell the end of the story in TV form,' they said. Continuing, Oseman stated, 'As much as I — and everyone else — want the final instalment to come to the screen as soon as possible. There are a lot of moving parts to account for that make it hard to solidify anything. But we’re doing our best and will let fans know as soon as we can.'
They explained, 'there’s nothing that I can really share yet. I feel like viewers of the show hopefully know that I’m very open and honest online about the process and what’s going on with production. So of course, I will share anything when I’m able to — but that’s all there is at the moment.'
What would the plot for 'Heartstopper' season four be?

The first three seasons of Heartstopper were adapted from the show's creator Alice Oseman's web comics and graphic novel series. Season one and two were based off volumes one to three, while season three was taken from the fourth and fifth book.
On April 5 2023, Oseman revealed that there will indeed be a sixth and final instalment, meaning that there should be plenty of material for the fourth season of Heartstopper. The author and illustrator resumed the publishing of the webcomic on October 1 2024, just two days before the release of season three.
During an interview with The Guardian, she stated, 'I’m only 50 pages in, but I know what’s going to happen, what all the dialogue is going to be, and now I’m just sitting down and drawing it, which is my favourite bit. I’m really excited about what’s going to happen towards the end of the story, but it’s also very bittersweet. I also feel it’s absolutely the right time for it to end. It’s very sad, but it’s time.'
Given that season four may well be the final season of Heartstopper, it is thought that the plot line will dive further into the status of Charlie and Nick's romance, specifically regarding conversations around how their relationship will work once they end college and potentially start university in a long-distance relationship.
Who would be in the cast of 'Heartstopper' season four?
It is expected that all of the main cast would make a return to the fourth season, if it is to go ahead.
This includes Joe Locke as Charlie Spring, Kit Connor as Nick Nelson, William Gao as Tao Xu, Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones and Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson, Tobie Donovan as Isaac, Rhea Norwood as Imogen, Jenny Walser as Tori, Cormac Hyde-Corrin as Harry and Darragh Hand as Michael.
While Olivia Colman, who stars as Nick's mum, Sarah, was unable to feature in season three due to scheduling conflicts, fans hope that she will be able to reprise her role in season four.
When could we expect 'Heartstopper' season four to come out?
While it has not yet been confirmed, following Heartstopper's usual lead time (from start of production to the release of a season) of about a year and four months, season four of the hit show may be back on our screens early 2026, or December 2025 - fingers crossed!
