From Katy Perry’s Versace wings to Rihanna’s sartorial interpretation of the Pope, this year’s Met Gala was one of the most boundary-pushing to date.

But there’s one A-list look which people haven’t been able to stop talking about.

With her arm around new boyfriend Colin Jost, Scarlett Johansson graced the now-famous steps in an ombré gown by Marchesa.

Co-founded by Georgina Chapman, the now-estranged wife of Harvey Weinstein, the actress’s decision to wear the label was admittedly surprising.

Back in October, a 10-month long investigation into a string of sexual assault allegations made against the former film mogul was published in the New York Times which helped to kick-start the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements.

Johansson was one of the first actresses to speak out against Weinstein, as she took to the stage at the Women’s March back in January. So it comes as a surprise to learn that she donned a gown by his ex-wife at the fashion event.

In a statement, the 33-year-old explained the reason behind her controversial decision: “I wore Marchesa because their clothes make women feel confident and beautiful and it is my pleasure to support a brand created by two incredibly talented and important female designers.”

In response, Marchesa also released a statement which read: “We are truly honoured that Scarlett chose to wear Marchesa for the Met Gala. She is an amazingly talented actor who has incredible style and presence. It was wonderful to work so closely with her in creating this custom look.”

As a consequence to the allegations made against Weinstein, his wife filed for divorce and is now focusing on bringing up their two children.
