Everyone is talking about the Duke of Westminster's wedding today
British royals and aristocrats alike came together today for the Duke of Westminster’s wedding.
Hugh Grosvenor, a British aristocrat and head of property empire Grosvenor Group, married his long-term girlfriend, Olivia Henson, who has a career in the sustainable food sector, and will now be known as the Duchess of Westminster. The couple were introduced by mutual friends in 2021.
The lavish ceremony, which is being referred to by many as the 'most royal non-royal wedding of the year', took place on Friday, June 7, at the historic Chester Cathedral. The couple said their vows in front of approximately 400 guests.
Henson wore a wedding dress and veil designed by Emma Victoria Payne, both of which incorporated floral motifs from the bride's great great grandmother's veil. She also wore the Fabergé Myrtle Leaf Tiara, which has been worn by several generations of Grosvenor family brides.
The bride and groom have said “it means a lot to them to marry in Chester Cathedral”, reports The Guardian, because of the Grosvenor family’s long and close personal connection to the cathedral and city. Several relatives have been married at the church previously and the family's 11,000-acre estate, Eaton Hall, is nearby.
Grosvenor is not a royal (Duke of Westminster is a Peerage title given to someone not related to the British royal family), but he did grow up with the royals, and is particularly close with Prince William and Prince Harry. The 33-year-old is the godfather to William’s eldest son, Prince George, and Prince Harry’s son, Prince Archie.
William served as an usher at Grosvenor’s wedding, and George is believed to have been a pageboy. Princess Eugenie was also in attendance.
Prince Harry wasn't present for the nuptials, and neither was King Charles, as he had an engagement in Normandy the day prior, where he led commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landing. The Princess of Wales also understandably missed the event as she continues her cancer treatment.
