Emily Ratajkowski’s Crisscrossing Halter-Neck Dress Is a Love Letter to Y2K VMAs Fashion
Emily Ratajkowski’s bombshell style made a bold fashion statement on the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet.
The model and My Body author is among tonight’s star-studded guests at New Jersey's Prudential Center. For the occasion, she wore a look that could easily be swapped with any VMAs red-carpet outfit heralding from the early aughts. The Y2K-inspired ensemble included a glamorous handkerchief dress, with criss-crossing halterneck and abdominal straps in a brilliant emerald green hue while the asymmetrical skirt featured a rusty orange surrealist illustration of a woman diving in circles.
Ratajkowski paired the dress with a small bedazzled Fendi bag, metallic gold stilettos, and an array of gold jewelry.
Ratajkowski will take the stage as one of this evening's presenters, which also includes Bebe Rexha, Charli D'Amelio, Coco Jones, Dixie D’Amelio, French Montana, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Jared Leto, Madelyn Cline, Rita Ora, and Sabrina Carpenter.
The High Low podcast host last attended the VMAs in 2015, when she appeared in a black Altuzarra gown with a plunging neckline and a gold sequined pattern. She paired the look with thigh-high black leather stiletto boots.
Ratajkowski previously talked about her philosophy when it comes to getting dressed in a 2022 interview with PopSugar. “I love wearing sneakers with a dress, especially as it’s getting warmer in New York,” she said at the time. “It’s the most comfortable-but-still-chic look that you can do. Other accessories, like what you do bag-wise and jewelry-wise, can dress it down. A larger bag makes it more casual, but if you do something tiny and kind of hot, it can be great for night.”
