Elizabeth Hurley, 53, recreates her infamous Versace safety pin dress

Elizabeth Hurley has modelled for a magazine shoot in a reimagined version of the Versace safety pin dress that helped her cement her celebrity status in the 90s.

The 53-year-old actress and swimwear entrepreneur shared a photo of the updated Versace gown, which she wears in the Harper’s Bazaar April 2019 Instagram account last night.

Although the dress has several differences to the original – its neckline is less plunging, for instance – its thigh high split and crucial gold safety pin detail still hail back to the iconic look Hurley first wore in 1994.

Then an up-and-coming model, Hurley took to the red carpet in the infamous dress at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’, which she attended with then-boyfriend Hugh Grant.

Speaking to the publication about the dress that made her famous, Hurley admits she had “no idea” about red carpet fashion.

“I urgently needed to find a dress to wear for Hugh’s premiere, and in those days I had no idea about fashion,” she says.

“I remember going to an office where they literally fished a dress out of a white plastic bag. I took it home and did my own hair and makeup, fighting Hugh for the mirror…”

Hurley has previously denied that she would wear the iconic Versace dress again.

Just last year, she told Grazia that she would feel “slightly depressed” bringing it back.

“I’m not sure I would [wear the Versace safety pin dress again], to be honest. People don’t like to wear their wedding dresses again do they?” Hurley told the publication.

“I think you couldn’t look better in it second time around. I mean, 24 years on, you could end up feeling slightly depressed, so, no!”

“That dress is definitely for someone 20 years younger than me.”

Hurley isn’t the only celebrity known for looking years younger than her true age.

Recently, Reese Witherspoon, 42, graced the cover of US Vogue looking incredibly similar to her 19-year-old daughter, Ava Phillippe.

What’s more, earlier this year Jada Pinkett Smith, 47, featured on the front of the first digital edition of Harper’s Bazaar alongside daughter Willow Smith, 18, and 65-year-old mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris. All three women share the same glowing skin and youthful features.
