The Easter Egg Behind Taylor Swift's Old Money Chignon Hairstyle
Taylor Swift may be loyal to her signature style (down to the her perfume), but the megastar's penchant for relaying coded messages to fans through her nails, make-up and overall ensemble makes for an exciting moment every time she makes an appearance.

Attending the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos game to support boyfriend Travis Kelce, Swift switched up her go-to wavy lengths for an ultra-chic, old money-esque '60s chignon framed with her iconic full fringe.
The sophisticated updo not only complements the polished vibe of her red and black Versace plaid skirt suit set perfectly, it's also bang on trend considering classic beauty looks such as the old-money blonde and French manicures are having a 2024 resurgence.
The chignon made waves backstage at SS25 fashion week too, where revered hairstylist Sam McKnight created sharp, dramatic twists at Richard Quinn and 16Arlington. For McKnight, height is key. 'I mist Cool Girl Superlift into roots at the top and blow-dry with lift for root volume,' he shares.
Then, the lengths are taken up 'into a ponytail at the back of the head and twisted into a French pleat, pinning to secure'. Swift, who most likely worked with her long-time hairstylist Jemma Muradian for her look, went with a more textured, modern finish.
That said, we have a feeling that Swift's approach to the updo is driven less by trends, but rather by her approach of sending coded messages to eagle-eyed fans. As a Swiftie herself, this editor can't help but to think that this look is perhaps a nod to her Reputation era.
The hairstyle closely resembles the updo she wore to the 2018 American Music Awards, where Swift performed 'I Did Something Bad' off the album. There's been a lot of chatter surrounding the release of Reputation (Taylor's Version), with fans previously predicting that the re-recorded album will drop at the end of her US leg of the Eras Tour or at last night MTV EMAs (neither were true).
Perhaps this updo is Swift signalling to us that Reputation TV is eminent, we just need to wait a liiiiiitle bit longer.
