EastEnders star returns to soap as horrified Whitney gives birth - 'Don't let her near me'
EastEnders' Whitney went into labour during Thursday's episode - but got a nasty shock when she arrived at the hospital to see a face from her past. After being locked in a truck with Lauren, Whitney - played by Shona McGarty - soon went into labour and eventually made it to hospital.
However, she wasn't too happy that learn that delivering her baby would be Nurse Lynsey - the midwife who delivered Peach, the baby she was forced to abort and give birth to after she was diagnosed with Edward's Syndrome. Kathryn Bond returned previously played Nurse Lynsey last year on the soap, and returned for Thursday's episode.
In scenes that aired during Thursday's episode, a pregnant Lynsey - who had opened up to Whitney about losing her own child last year - is seen walking into Whitney's hospital room.
"You're the one that delivered Peach," a shocked Whitney said. "You're pregnant." Lynsey responded: "A chance I never thought I'd have. Tell me what you're feeling."
Whitney said whilst becoming upset: "I just feel like seeing you is going to make it happen again. I won't have my baby to take home today."
Later on, while Whitney was still in labour, she admitted that she was worried that Lynsey was a bad omen. "Is she going to give me bad news? With Peach, she'd lost a baby before and she said about loss and grief that you never get over it.
"She's going to come in and say the same thing, isn't she? I shouldn't have let her come near me."
Despite Bianca's attempt to reassure Whitney, she said: "I shouldn't even be in labour, I'm two weeks early. This is me, I've let every child down. Every baby, I've failed them."
However, her foster child Britney was there to comfort her. "No! I'm not going to let you say that. Babies can hear things. And you ain't never let me down. You're the best thing in my life."
Thankfully, Whitney delivered a perfectly healthy baby girl and went on to name her Dolly. However, she's yet to find out about her partner Zack's affair with best friend Lauren Branning - who tried to tell her before she went into labour.
With Whitney set to leave EastEnders soon, this revelation could be the catalyst for her departure. Whitney is in for more devastation later in the week when Peach's baby loss certificate arrives in the post and the couple are forced to relive the heartbreak of losing their little girl, who was terminated at 18 weeks.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
