Eamonn Holmes has broken his silence for the first time since it was announced he and wife Ruth Langsford have split after 14 years of marriage.

The pair - familiar to many from their years hosting This Morning together on Fridays - revealed the break up and their impending divorce in a short statement today.

A spokesperson told The Sun: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Just hours after the news was revealed, TV veteran Eamonn, 64, who has rarely been seen with his wife in recent months, posted on Instagram.

The GB News host, who is a lifelong fan of Manchester United, broke his silence to comment on the result of this afternoon's FA Cup final, in which his team beat local rivals Manchester City 2-1.

Eamonn posted a painting showing himself alongside United's legendary former manager Alex Ferguson.

He wrote: "My God , what a Cup Final , what a Result ! #MUFC European football next season too . The Magic of The Cup. Congratulations to the whole squad."

While many followers replied to the posts with remarks about the game, many others addressed the statement this afternoon.

One wrote: "Quite apart from the footie, I'm really sad to hear about you and Ruth."

The TV pair met through friends in 1997 and they dated for over a decade before getting married. In 2002, they welcomed a son, Jack Alexander Holmes.

Eamonn and Ruth, who began co-hosting This Morning together in 2006, married at Elvetham Hall in Hampshire in 2010.

They stayed on the ITV morning show as cover for regular hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby as well as hosts of the Friday show until being replaced in 2021.

The pair made way for Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond in the Friday slot, with Eamonn taking up a job on GB News.

A spokesperson for Ruth confirmed to OK! that the statement to The Sun was true. OK! has also contacted Eamonn's team for comment.
