Why a Dyson Airwrap is worth the hype and how to get over £100 off right now

🛍️ Product reviewed: Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler
Tested it for: Three years
Rating: 4/5
💸 Reasons to buy: The lightweight and versatile attachments use air rather than heat to style hair, therefore minimising any damage to your locks. It's also a six-in-one hair drying and styling tool
Reasons to avoid: Buying one new is extremely expensive and not essential for your hair to look good
💰 Best deal we've found: Buying a refurbished Dyson Airwrap is a great way of getting one for a more affordable price. While a Dyson Airwrap will set you back £479.99 usually, a refurbished model usually costs £399.99. However, thanks to an additional discount, you can currently bag one for only £279.99

The Dyson AirWrap is the most talked about beauty tool – bit is it actually any good? (Yahoo Life UK)

The Dyson Airwap Multi-Styler is undoubtedly one of the most coveted hair styling tools on the market.

You can find the design available in three different colourways; copper and nickel, fuschia and nickel, and vinca blue and rosé.

But if you've ever wondered if it's worth the price tag, then read on, as I've tried it first-hand and can share my honest review.

First thing to note is that Dyson came out with a new multi-styler version in 2022. I own the original 2018 version, which has all the same functions. However, the latest version (which is the refurbished one on sale) has one new functionality for additional ease.

The original styler comes with two of each curling barrel, which come in two sizes, 40mm and 30mm, so that you can achieve either tight curls or loose waves. Each barrel has a different airflow (either clockwise or counter-clockwise), so you have to switch the barrel when creating curls for either the left or right side of your face.

In the latest 2022 version (which is now the only one you can buy new), it has blended the results formerly achieved with two barrels into one attachment, so now you can style the full head, creating clockwise and anti-clockwise curls and waves, without the need to switch attachment mid-style.

How it works

Dyson revolutionised hair styling tools, The Airwrap's core purpose is to use air rather than heat to curl hair, meaning less damage is done to delicate strands.

The 2018 design comes with eight attachments that have six different functions – here's the breakdown below:

  • Pre-styling dryer – a hairdryer attachment which can be used in place of your usual tool.

  • A soft-smoothing brush – fed up of flyaway strands? This attachment will help get rid of them while ensuring a silky-soft finish.

  • A firm smoothing brush and a soft smoothing brush – these hot brush attachments allow you to create frizz-free, poker-straight hair.

  • A round volumising brush – love a big, bouncy blowdry? This barrel-style brush adds plenty of volume and is perfect for managing a fringe.

  • A 30mm Airwrap™ barrel and a 40mm Airwrap barrel – these clever attachments curve air around the barrel in alternate directions to curl hair without using heat.

Presented in a gorgeous leather box, it's every bit as luxurious as you would expect, with each attachment neatly stored in a separate compartment so they're always easy to reach.

Reasons to buy 🛍️

The attachments are super-lightweight and attach to the wand with the click of a button and all hair types can benefit from the hot brushes and curling barrels.

It's easy to get to grips with too – just ensure if you're curling hair that you section off strands to achieve an even effect. Once the hair is wrapped around the barrel, keep it there for 10 seconds, then press the cold shot button, which blasts cold air around tresses to set them in place and help retain their shape for longer.

The round volumising brush is my favourite attachment as it immediately adds volume, even to my hair which is naturally fine and straight, and is brilliant at perfecting a bouncy fringe that can be hard to manage with just a hairbrush and your usual hairdryer.

While it's no doubt an investment, even on sale, this is essentially six hair styling tools in one, plus it is incredibly versatile, ultra-luxurious and fuss-free to use. It's much quieter than any hairdryer I've ever tried and the most lightweight styling tool as well.

It's the fastest way to achieve a salon-worthy hairdo from the comfort of your home.

Reasons to avoid

The biggest downside to the Dyson Airwrap is its eye-watering high price tag, and as previously mentioned, deals on the device are few and far between.

As it's an extensive piece of kit, if you don't blow-dry or curl your hair, this is by no means a necessity. However, if you do like to spend time styling and drying your hair, trying out different looks from updos to soft waves, then this is a worthwhile investment.

Best deal we've found💰

As we've mentioned before, savings on the high-tech tool are scarce, but you also can often find refurbished Dyson Airwrap models price-slashed on Ebay and Dyson.

You may be sceptical, but the Ebay Dyson site is actually home to a Dyson Ebay Certified Refurb, where you can shop the brand for cheaper. Everything sold through the hub undergoes a vetting process to ensure all products are in pristine condition, and the Airwrap currently on offer has been professionally inspected, refurbished and packaged by Dyson.

The price of the newer nickel/copper edition is usually £479.99 when purchased brand new, but on Ebay, you can usually pick up a refurbished model for £399.99 - that's a £80 saving.

However, thanks to a up to 30% discount currently on all Dyson refurbished products (including fans, vacuums and more), you can now buy a refurbished model for £279.99– that's an additional £120 saving, which adds up to a total £200 off current retail price!

The discount code DYSONFLASH30 should be automatically applied to your basket once you've added the styler to your basket for you to get the additional discount.

You can also shop refurbished models (in numerous colours) directly from the Dyson website through its own refurbished outlet, but it's more expensive at £399.99.
