Duchess Sarah on Life with the Queen's Two Corgis: It's a "Big Honor"
Queen Elizabeth II's corgis are doing just fine with Sarah Ferguson as their new owner.
In a new interview, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew spoke of what life is like at home with the late monarch’s surviving dogs, Muick and Sandy, who added to their family of pets, which already included five terriers.
"They all balance out. The carpet moves as I move, but I’ve got used to it now," the Duchess of York told the U.K. Telegraph. She added that having the queen's "national treasures" with her and Andrew at home has been a "big honor."
Duchess Sarah and Prince Andrew gifted two corgis to the queen—Muick and Fergus—in the spring of 2021, when Prince Philip was hospitalized. (Fergus sadly died at two months old.) Then, following Philip's death, and on what would have been his 100th birthday, the Duke of York gifted his mother another corgi, Sandy.
Upon the queen's death on September 8, Sarah and Andrew decided they would be the ones to take care of the corgis they gifted her. Though divorced since 1996, the two still live together at the Royal Lodge in Windsor—Muick and Sandy's new home.
A source close to the Duke of York told BAZAAR at the time, "The corgis will return to live at Royal Lodge with The Duke and Duchess. It was The Duchess who found the puppies which were gifted to Her Majesty by The Duke."
The source added, "The Duchess bonded with Her Majesty over dog walking and riding horses, and even after her divorce, she would continue her great friendship with Her Majesty by walking the dogs in Frogmore and chatting."
On the day of the queen's state funeral, September 19, Muick and Sandy were seen sitting inside Windsor Castle with two royal guards, awaiting the monarch's coffin.
