Dolly Alderton shares her ultimate life lessons on her birthday
Dolly Alderton has become known for expertly narrating the experience of every Millennial woman, tackling everything from heartbreak to complicated female friendships and love, of course.
With that in mind, we were all ears when the author, podcaster and Sunday Times Style agony aunt shared some of her ultimate life rules to mark her 36th birthday.
In a post shared on Instagram, the Everything I Know About Love and Good Material author wrote: "I turned 36 last weekend. It’s been a minute since I wrote a list of an inexplicable number of rules for life, so here is one, to mark being on the right side of thirty five."
Dolly had some pretty wise advice to share with fans when it comes to romantic relationships and growing older.
In one slide she wrote, "Let go of the life you thought you’d have." She added: "Every single one of us will have to do this at some stage. The process is hard and sad and then it can be easy and liberating. In fact, it’s less of a process and more of an art form. It’s spectacular to watch someone do it successfully."
In another she added that the right relationship will make you feel safe, writing, "If you keep finding yourself in relationships where you become panicked and insane … look at whether you’ve conflated the feelings of stimulation and romance with insecurity and anxiety. I return to this quote from my friend Lauren a lot because it’s such a goodie: 'Love is not the absence of fun, it’s the absence of fear.'"
